Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 203mm f/10 EdgeHD Aplanatic Cassegrain GoTo Telescope with StarSense AutoAlign
Key Features
  • 203mm Aplanatic Catadioptric OTA
  • 2032mm Focal Length, f/10 Focal Ratio
  • Flat-Field, Coma-Free EdgeHD Optics
  • StarBright XLT Optical Coating System
This iteration of the NexStar Evolution 8 203mm f/10 EdgeHD Aplanatic Cassegrain GoTo Telescope from Celestron is a powerful, versatile, and user-friendly compact catadioptric-style scope that can be used for observing everything from the Moon and planets to deep-sky objects like galaxies and nebulae. The EdgeHD optical system is designed to virtually eliminate spherical and chromatic aberrations so views through it are flat and distortion-free across the entire field of view, with accurate color rendition. Using Celestron's proprietary StarBright XLT multi-coating system, light transmission is increased throughout the entire optical path with anti-reflection multi-coated lenses, highly reflective multi-coated mirrors, and four-element rare-earth glass. While the focal ratio is a slow f/10, the scope's precision tracking system, complemented by the StarSense AutoAlign system and distortion-free optical qualities, allow it to be a competent astrophotography/astroimaging platform for the Moon, planets, prominent deep-sky objects, and wide-field photos.

question

Can this scope with EdgeHD optics and Evolution mount be purchased without StarSense?
Asked by: Anonymous
As Harry pointed out, Alex's link is NOT to the same scope. It does NOT have the EdgeHD aplanatic optics. If that's important to you (it was to me), it looks like your choice is Evo mount plus StarSense or getting it with the German EQ mount (#CEAVX8EHD).

If my choice were this versus the Advanced VX 8" f/10 EdgeHD Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo EQ package (CEAVX8EHD), which is better? Scopes have *very similar* but not quite identical specifications (such as different glass for some components). Is the half-fork mount better than the German EQ? I'd have to add an eq wedge for astrophotography, but any other important differences?
Asked by: David
Optically they are the same and it is how they mount that is different. But it does not change the use of them. The Evolution is more portable and easier to setup and travel. If that is important the Evolution model might be the better option for you.

Can the magnification be changed? Like if I want to see it at a 100x? And then change it to 480x?
Asked by: Luciano
You can insert a different eyepiece or Barlow Lens to change your telescope's magnification. It can be done simply and quickly based on your observing needs.

Does this telescope and mount stay fixed on the ...

Does this telescope and mount stay fixed on the celestial object for astrophotography, similarto equatorial mount ?
Asked by: Rajesh
Yes, once the mount is aligned, it will track celestial objects. For short exposures (up to about 15 seconds) it will work well. However, because it is set up in an Alt/Azimuth configuration, you will need to place the mount on a wedge for equatorial configuration for longer exposures. Once polar aligned, the mount will compensate for field rotation and stars will stay pinpoint in your images.

Can you not use Starsense camera, with a Starsense HC, or do you need standard HC?
Asked by: Bruce
Good morning, If the StarSense autoalign system is used, it is mandatory that the dedicated StarSense hand controller be used for the autoalignment process. However, If the StarSense camera and the autoalign system is not used, the StarSense hand controller can be used to "manually" control the telescope in place of the standard Nexstar Plus hand controller.
