Focusrite Solo overview

  • 1Description

The Second-Generation Scarlett Solo from Focusrite is a portable USB 2.0 digital audio interface, featuring a single Scarlett microphone preamp with phantom power, and a dedicated instrument/line input. You can monitor your signal either through an independent 1/4" output or via rear-mounted, unbalanced RCA jacks. Perfect for the travelling troubadour, this unit is fully compatible with Mac and Windows computers, and includes a plethora of recording, instrument, and sample content software.

An included Pro Tools | First Focusrite Creative pack is enhanced by a suite of Focusrite Scarlett plug-ins—a set of tools including compression, EQ, gating, and reverb. The Novation Bass Station software synthesizer can be used to add bass or melody, and a sample pack from Loopmasters contains drum loops and sound effects. Ableton Live is included to boot.

Focusrite's Red Plug-In Suite (AAX, Audio Units, and VST) delivers modules based on the classic Focusrite Red 2 EQ and Red 3 Compressor hardware. Also included in this bundle is the Softube Time and Tone Pack for further sonic exploration within your chosen DAW.

    Focusrite Solo reviews

Scarlett Solo USB Audio Interface (2nd Generation) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from MIGHTY MOUSE! Short and sweet as this little pre is as simple as it gets. I have been using the Mbox 2 mini for years, until buying a new mac which presented a problem: The Mbox does not work on the new OS, and they stopped updating the drivers/software in around 2010, 2011? (Told you Ive been using it for years). So I already have a Presonus mic pre for processing, all I really ever used the Mbox for was conversion of the signal from analog to digital, the most logical step was to grab the scarlett Solo. While it has a guitar input which is clearly marked with a guitar Icon on it I cant speak to its use for that because I use it exclusively with my Neumann mic and the Presonus. when researching my Presonus mic pre I had originally looked at Focusrite as I had always heard their products to be very solid. Anyway this little box can be used as a mic pre but I would def recommend it to be used in conjunction with a bigger, and more elaborate one. If all you need is signal conversion, you really cannot go wrong particularly for the price. It comes with a download code for the Focusrite version of their pro tools like software, and while I know it to be good, I have no use for it. All in all this is a great product for the price, no doubt about it. It is simplicity personified limited number of inputs but for a little more they have a larger model. I use it for voice work in my home studio and for that I honestly cannot ask for anything more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellence, Build, Quality components and looks to match Perfect for newbie like me. Simple solid construction with some updated features over version one. Very easy to use right out of the box, looks great also. My only odd issue was with windows 10, I still needed a inline pre amp like Cloudlifter or Fethead. I did chose fethead and love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely would buy this product again. First thing I noticed was the quality build of the product, very solid. The price for the quality of work you can perform on this interface is excellent. Sounds are clear, Set up is not hard and to top it off you get so much bonus material with the interface you will have no second thoughts about your purchase. Excellent product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Interface Using this as an interface for guitar amp sim software. Combined with a reasonably powerful PC latency is below 10ms. Have not used the mic input so can't comment on that yet. I think it's a bit overpriced but it does work well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We get what we pay for ( Excellent ) Works as intended, super solid build and great features. Very clean look and no issues like some on generation one. I just use mine with a dynamic mic and inline fethead amp. which allows me to use the phantom power. Added decibels 25db. A bit expensive but well worth it
