G-Technology G1 overview

  • 1Description

Designed for storing and working with intensive multimedia files including video, photos, audio, and music libraries, the 10TB G-DRIVE USB G1 USB 3.0 Hard Drive from G-Technology lets you store up to 10TB of your data and transfer it to or from your computer using USB 3.0 (USB 3.1 Gen 1) technology. Housed in an aluminum enclosure, the G-DRIVE USB G1 features data transfer rates of up to 245 MB/s and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, both of which allow for quick file access and fast data transfer speeds. The G-DRIVE USB G1 natively supports USB 3.0 and includes a USB 3.0 cable, and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

While the G-DRIVE USB G1 is compatible with both Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, and Mac OS 10.9 and later,, it comes formatted HFS+ for Mac OS and supports Apple's Time Machine software, allowing your Mac to be backed up to this drive. To use this drive with Windows, it will need to be reformatted. Also included with the G-DRIVE USB G1 is a power adapter.

    10TB G-DRIVE USB G1 USB 3.0 Hard Drive is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice product, very straightforward This a very nice product, I purchase 4 of this 10TB for a feature film, these are well built and with an ok usb3 interface, my only concern is that I connected the drives to a usb2 port and the computer didn't seem to recognized the drives, then I switched to an usb3 port and worked perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great drive, great price I’m using this as a backup (Time Machine) drive, so USB is fast enough and the low price (relative to the faster interface options) allowed me to get a huge capacity drive. This is my second G-Drive, and the quality and ease of setup are first rate. I’d do it again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Bad I purchased this item, about two weeks before I bought a new IMAC. Transferred data from Mac Pro to new drive. The dang thing gave an error message about not able to write or something about permission. Then no longer readable. I have to get to local vendor to see if they can fix it, the data is to important to loose. Hopefully B&H works with me on this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 5 Star for the product and 1 star for B&H customer service I have many G-Technology hard drives and I love them as they are very very reliable. Regarding this product, there is confusion about the information on B&H website. On the tile mentioned this USB 3.1 Gen 1 and on the description mentioned USB 3.0. Although before I buy this product I contented B&H customer service and they told this is USB 3.1 Gen 1, but it's not! This 7200 rpm HDD with USB 3.0

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good except for formatting for win 7 Once I had it formatted, it worked beautifully. The instructions provided did not work. The command line instructions worked but the win 7 tools for formatting did not. Initially I had partitions that were 7+ and 2+ tb, which I could not change. I fortunately had a 3rd party program that did the trick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can't believe HDD has come so far. All in all I feel from my usage experience it throws punches with my 850 Evo ssd. Had issues getting it to detect (windows) as normal, populated and formatted fine and gave me a solid 50 read and write. Then I went to their website and got the proper thunderbolt 3 drivers and after installation getting 220+MB/s R/W. Average statistics are 220+ MB/s consecutive read 220+ MB/s consecutive write 80ish+ MB/s consecutive comp/dec write 220+ MB/s consecutive comp/dec read 50 MB/s comp drive/sub folder consecutive write Aside from 280 MB/s consecutive r/w speed it matches it stays within small margin of my 850 Evo ssd all day long and has me rethinking HDD all over again. Simply can't believe that an internal model could be capable of this performance not to even mention external USB model. No doubt in my mind I'll be buying another one within the next 3 months. No doubt the best decision I made for media file server network I'm building. Runs extremely well being paired to sata 3 ssd and m.2 drives in transferring operations. If it don't die within 3 years it was worth every penny and then sum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best and the Only External Hard Drive worth its price Very stable, reliable, smooth and stylish. This is the only external hard drive on AC that I like. I won't buy anything else anymore.
