    8TB G-DRIVE with Thunderbolt is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, reliable and easy That's all you want in a drive, and yet those things are not that easy to find. Since I had a few top-rated other brands crash & self-destruct, I've been using G-tech drives exclusively for video production. They're great. I use a RAID to edit and this one to archive and mobile drives for location. Knock wood, never a problem.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Loud! Also, wrong plug end too for iMac Thunderbolt. People - When the other reviewers say this device is loud, LISTEN TO THEM! Imagine the first Wednesday of the month at 12:05 when the tornado siren is tested in town...tat is what this thing sounds like when it starts up. Then it clicks and pops and spudders CONTINUALLY while you have it connected. I am thinking of building a special sound-absorbant room in my house to keep it in. Also, I bought it to hook up to my iMac. The Thunderbolt wire that comes with this device will indeed plug into the device, but NOT into the iMac itself. Wrong Thunderbolt plug end. What's the point of having Thunderbolt if I can't even plug it in? So I'm using the USB end for now. For $400, I expected better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from First ever failed G-Tech drive... and lousy support I had read that this drive can be noisy, but mine started out loud and went from bad to worse during a recent multi-shoot project, culminating in a constant high pitch-whining noise and dropped frames in Premiere playback. I have around 200 G-tech drives, so to their credit its been a good run, but when I went to contact B&H about returning the drive (bought less than 30 days ago), I was told it could only be a returned as an exchange since I no longer had the original packaging. Already ordered a new drive (different model) to quickly backup the project, and definitely not interested in a replacement of the same model. My B&H rep told me to call G-Technology directly as they will sometimes provide replacement packaging for a situation like this. Called G-Tech and the rep dismissively said that they would never have empty packaging available for something like that, and was annoyed that B&H suggested this. It's like an episode of The Office... sigh, trying to take care of a simple product refund.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Good Drive. I like it. I use this product to store all my Videos, Photos and Music. I also use it for video processing in Avid and FCPX. The drive is fast, compact and therefore meets my expectations for a large capacity drive while home and away. The drive has a small amount of noise but I can live that. This is a replacement drive as the first drive was much too noisy. I contacted BH and they recommended a replacement drive and promptly go the wheels in motion for a replacement.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from G-Technology 8TB replacement received. Yesterday, 3/21/2017, I Received my G-Technology 8TB replacement Drive. The previous drive was a bit noisy and BH recommended I replace it. BH replaced the old drive without hesitation. The new drive makes some noise but not like the previous drive. I'll hold onto this one and see what happen with it over a period of time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard Drive had to be returned. The HD had a low level noise clicking sound which repeated ever six seconds. This concerned me so I contacted customer support at BH and asked, if this was normal. They said no and suggested I return the HD to BH. I'm currently waiting for a replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and Consistent performance. Solid hard drive. I use this for editing large projects. My suggestion is always keep your hard drive at least 30% empty to allow for faster speed. That being said I've never had a problem with the 8tb drive with thunderbolt and recommend it.
