Glide Gear TMP 500 Overview

The Glide Gear TMP-500 is a portable tablet teleprompter that can be used tripod-mounted or attached to a shoulder rig. The TMP-500 is capable of supporting almost every tablet and smartphone out there thanks to a highly adjustable tablet grip.

The TMP-500 is a 15mm rod-based prompter, comprised of a few components attached on a pair of 14" LWS rods. The tablet grip consists of two components that can be moved closer together or farther apart along the rods to provide between 2.5 to 9.5" of length space for your device (when held in landscape mode), so both small and large devices are supported. You can use your iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, Galaxy s7, and pretty much any other device except for larger size tablets. The iPad Pro and Microsoft Surface Pro aren't supported because the maximum supported width the brackets on the side of the prompter allow is 10.5".

The TMP-500 features a 70/30 beamsplitter glass, which is large enough to fully capture the screen of any phone or tablet that falls within the supported 9.5" height and 10.5" width space of the tablet grip. The beamsplitter glass offers a 12 ft reading range and is up/down adjustable to make reading the text off of it easier for your talent. It is also fully collapsible for storage or transport in an included zippered Nylon carry case. A hood is also included that secures to the rear of the beamsplitter glass to cover your lens and protect the image quality of your recordings. Any prompting software that your tablet supports can be used. These can be found online at sites like the App Store and Google Play.

Among the few components of the prompter is a two-in-one camera mount/tripod mount module that secures onto the rear end of the rods. On the bottom this module features both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting threads allowing for attachment on any standard tripod. On top is a camera mount platform with a 1/4"-20 camera mount thumbscrew that screws in from underneath. The way this module attaches onto the rod clamp of the rods allows it to be vertically adjusted to support different camera sizes, ranging from small camcorders and DSLRs to mid-size models. The camera plate supports up to 10 lb loads.

For tripod mounted use, just attach the prompter on a tripod and you're good to go. For use with a shoulder rig, the TMP-500 offers various options. You can use it with pretty much any 15mm rod-based shoulder rig. If you have a rig that supports additional rods in front for matte boxes, you can simply install the prompter's rods, and the prompter will sit securely on the front of the rig. The prompter's rods are threaded on both ends, so if you have a rig with threaded rods, you can just screw the prompter's rods onto the rig's rods. In this setup also the prompter will sit securely on the front of the rig.

In all of these scenarios, you're free to remove the camera plate module from the prompter's rods and mount it on the rig's rods. Wherever possible, you can also remove the camera plate module completely and instead use the rig's camera plate. And, you can adjust the different components of the prompter along the rods to allow for the most comfortable setup. These different setups have been tested successfully by Glide Gear to work securely and are especially comfortable if you mount a counterweight on the back of your rig.

On the bottom this system are both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting threads so you can attach it to pretty much any tripod, that can handle the load. It also has a 1/4"-20 screw on the top to attach a camera.

Would an iPad Pro, whose dimensions are 11.04" x 8.54", fit in the screen holder? I've seen somewhere it's 10.5" x 9.5", which feels like a shame because it's so close to supporting the largest iPad model! Thanks!
Asked by: Brett
This supports tablets between 9.5" height and 10.5" width.

question

is it true that because the angle of the glass cannot be adjusted, only the top portion of the glass is usable for text? are there any ipad prompters that allow for angle adjustments of the glass?
Asked by: erick
At this price, this prompter is basic. Some of the comments suggest that this was not the right one for those users but is perfectly fine for others. I think if your talent is doing a straight on talking head you should have no issues.
