    Seagate STEB8000100 reviews

STEB8000100 8TB Expansion Desktop Drive is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge storage, a snap to install I just installed a pair of these on my iMac to support various photo and video projects. It's too early to say much about reliability, but so far so good! They worked right out of the box, though I reformatted them for use on a Mac (a quick and easy operation). One thing I wondered about before purchase that I can clarify in case you're wondering too. B&H has a photo for the 8 TB model that shows it smooth and horizontal, whereas all the smaller sizes were vertical with a waffle texture. I can assure you that the 8 TB has the same vertical waffle appearance as its smaller siblings, so ignore the photo. (Maybe they will have changed it by the time you read this.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable drive that does the job. This is my 2nd purchase for this model drive. Haven't had any issues with them so far. I had to format these before using, which takes about 24 hours, which helps insures my writing on these later without errors. I'm using these on my server to store movies on my Plex, which I haven't had any lag or hesitations on movies when watching them. They do rattle a little at times when reading/writing but not enough to bother me. The drives do run a little on the warm side but during the cold days helps to keep my room warm. In the summer gotta make sure to keep the room air conditioned/cool to avoid overheating/failures. I would get another if these get full.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as intended It's a big drive, a tad on the slow side, and a little on the loud side but I can't complain. It does what I want it to and that is hold a lot of information and take up as little amount of space as it can.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It is indeed a bit too loud. Before buying it, I saw many reviews saying it is very loud. But since I do not use it as a cloud storage, so I don't really care if it is a bit loud. Speed is good enough I believe. The speed between USB 3.0 storage transferring large files usually starts at 150m/s, then goes down and stabilizeat 100m/s. And for windows system, you can just plug it in and start using it. The real storage size is 7.27 TB. Just in case. And for the noise part. I had another seagate4TB Storage which "clicks" sometimes when it is been accessed. But for this one, it is like there is a little drum inside. And yes, it is pretty loud compareto most portable storage. If you only need to use it occasionally, it is a bang for the buck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for large, relatively slow storage. I'm using this as a big local backup drive for a 5TB and a 2TB working drive. It serves well for this purpose. Like others have said, transfers tend to start off fast and then settle into slower speeds. This makes it fine for backup, but probably not recommended as a working drive for photo/video editing. Drive noise is negligible. Will the drive eventually fail? Who knows, but most drives eventually fail - that's why I got this one as a backup after all! At least this one's relatively cheap so replacement won't break the bank.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't work on all my computers Would be a great product if it worked on all my computers. It only works on one of my 3 computers at home, (It's not a USB 3 issue, they all have USB 3)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again. I was very surprised that I connected up the 8TB hard drive external for additional storage and it came right up with the computer recognizing the full 8TB. The last time I brought on additional storage it was nightmare trying to get the computer to see the full 3TB it only showed 1TB. As soon as it was up I started downloading big movie files I have and the new hard drive took it all. Took 15 hours to download with no problems I was impressed.
