    Dell UP3017 reviews

    UP3017 30" 16:10 IPS Monitor is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dell UP3017 - too expensive for what you get I was looking for replacement for my aging Dell 3008WFP that is still going strong after almost 7 years in service so I was excited to see there is new model that used LED backlight, has mDP, DP chaining, USB 3 and non-sensor buttons (previous Dell 3014 would pop up onscreen menu if one wave his/her hand near the edge). First monitor was promptly delivered to my NY location the following day. I've connected it immediately to my workstation and fired up PassMark Monitor Test to check if there are any dead pixels. There were no dead/stuck pixels but there was a 30x4mm dark spot incorporate into left half of the LCD panel itself that was clearly visible on light backgrounds. Thanks to great service from B&H, requesting return online took 30 seconds including shipping label print and monitor went back to B&H for exchange (I've liked the design of this monitor and how cool it runs compared with my 3008 so wanted to give it additional try). B&H facility received my return the following day (they're in NY as well) and shipped replacement the same day. I got new replacement monitor next day. This once does not have any dead/stuck pixels or dark spots, all ports functioned properly, but white and light gray background tests exposed nasty defect: blue hue/tint covering whole right 1/5th of the screen from top to bottom. Hue does not go away if the person changes the angle but will slightly reduce if one moves to the right. To me, it is completely unacceptable for monitor in this price range. There is also fair amount of light bleed but that's normal for IPS. Another thing I've noticed that the screen does not go into sleep mode if full-sized DisplayPort cable/input is used to connect to computer, it will stay on with backlight on while your computer is transmitting screen off signal that would turn off my old 3008 just fine. WHen supplied DP to miniDP cable is used, monitor goes into sleep mode just fine but I often have two computers connected to my monitor and select which one to use by switching the input. Both ports should equally detect the signal and put display into sleep. Last thing I've noticed before packing the replacement monitor for final return for refund (going either to wait for new revision of this monitor, this one is Rev. A00 produced in China May 2016 or skip Dell products entirely) is that it seems to forget all brightness/contrast adjustments I made every time the power cord is disconnected. All my other monitors retain these settings just fine so I don't have to adjust them every time i briefly disconnect the monitor to re-route the cables.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Controls and hookup noticeably worse than previous Dell 30 I bought this to replace an aging Dell U3011, and its been a real disappointment. I could not detect any difference in image quality, I guess I have gotten spoiled with the display. Dell no longer includes DVI cable connections, which is a much bigger problem than I first realized. I use my monitor with a KVM, and so I either need to get a KVM that supports HDMI or DisplayPort, or convert the DVI coming out of my current KVM. The KVM switches for DVI don't go up to the native 2560 resolution, the ones for DisplayPort all seem to have problems keeping the USB ports alive, and there does not appear to be any way to convert DVI Dual Link (2560 resolution) to HDMI or Display Port. So it seems that this monitor is pretty much unusable with a KVM, and is being returned. I thought of using the monitor itself as the KVM, but the input selection is clumsy and hard to use. The control buttons are now under the monitor bezel, and it takes two hands to use them, one to press the button in the up direction, and the other to hold the monitor from tilting. The old controls were on the front and you could press on the button with some fingers behind the monitor to keep it from moving. The cable hookups at the back were also hard to get at. The older U3011 had cable pictures under the connector so you could see which way the cable needed to be turned. The new monitor has no such pictures so you have to get under the thing to see. Dell helpfully(?) suggests that you tilt the monitor 90 degrees, but I'd need longer cables just to do that. For $1000, why can't there be the pictures to make it easy. And then they put the service tag in the center of the back of the monitor, directly behind the vertical support. Since Dell customer service seems incapable of answering any question without the service tag number, you have to rotate the monitor to see the tag, with aforementioned problem of needing longer cables to accommodate that.
