    WD WDBBGB0030HBK-NESN reviews

3TB My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hooked on WD drives, but... Buy one formatted for your particular platform. Although that in itself is a challenge as well if your system is only slightly dated. Because I refer their products to my clients, clients who aren't so eSavy, the hoops I had to jump through to format this drive for my mac was so PC. I know they would have great difficulty formatting the drive. For Mac: They assume everyone uses Apple's newest OS. So, if you don't, then you've got to wipe it and format it for your particular platform. It didn't make sense for it to be so convoluted a process. But, I would still buy WD products over all others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WD Hard Drive running quietly, with no drama My 3 TB WD USB 3.0 external HD is attached to my new iMac running High Sierra. Having owned a similar 2 TB Firewire WD HD for years, I expected no trouble and have not been disappointed. The drive is behaving as it should, quietly, with no drama. Since I use CCC backup software vs the backup software that comes with the drive, I simply re-formatted it after arrival with Disk Utility. It is now in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, divided into partitions to provide volumes for Time Machine and for CCC's Bootable Backup. I might add that my iMac's HD is not formatted in Apple's new file system, APFS. How that file system - when it's available - will affect my experience is unknown.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easier to work with than Seagate. Previously had 2 or 3 Seagates to handle my automatic backup needs. The most recent one stopped working after about 2 years, but never informed me that the backups were failing. I stumbled onto the problem. Seagate said the error indicated the drive was a complete loss. I replaced it with a Western Digital drive. It was easy to set up and understanding how to restore a file is easier than Seagate. The only shortcoming is that the auto backup may not run according to the schedule you set up. Others have complained about this. After some testing, it seems the backup will not be triggered if the PC is in sleep mode. As a result, setting the backup to run during the night does not work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Fine but Start-up Was Problematic After installing this external drive I downloaded Acronis True Image WD Edition software from WD's website. After imaging my computer's HD Acronis shut my computer. When I tried rebooting my computer got stuck. I called WD tech support and used it on another computer with them to determine that the imaging worked. The tech rep formatted a very large free partition for me to use for backups. And I could get this WD HD to work on my main computer (a Lenovo laptop) if I connected it while the computer was on, but the computer still would not boot up or restart if this WD HD was still connected. A WD "Level 2" technician then miss-diagnosed the problem. I later found the solution on my own by changing ports I was using for this WD HD from an AC-powered docking station port that had worked fine with an older WD HD I was replacing to a port on an AC-powered USB 3.0 hub I had recently bought from B&H.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far no problems It is fairly quiet. It sleeps/wakes up with my Windows 7 laptop, although it take some time to spin up and get re-recognized. However, not the really long lags I have had with older external drives.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, no complaints I use 2 of these hard drives to make bootable clones of my MacBook and iMac. So far so good. Time will tell.
