Gitzo GM2542 Overview

The GM2542 Series 2 Monopod from Gitzo is a slim and lightweight carbon fiber support designed with both portability and stability in mind. Utilizing Gitzo's patented G-Lock Ultra leg locks, the GM2542 has the ability to support up to an impressive 77.2 lb while weighing just 1.1 lb.

The monopod reaches a maximum height of 64.6", enough to meet the height requirements of most shooters, and features a reversible 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread for adding an optional monopod head if extra height or articulation is needed. At just 21.3" long when folded, the GM2542 is easy to pack within a suitcase for travel or strap to a backpack for day and overnight hikes.

Despite its lightweight and slim appearance, the GM2542 offers impressive strength which originates from its use of Gitzo's 6X Carbon eXact tubing and patented G-Lock Ultra designs. The professional grade 6-layer carbon weave allows the monopod to maintain maximum strength while keeping weight to an absolute minimum. The G-Lock Ultras also add to the tubing's strength by providing a rigid connection between leg sections and protecting the joints from dust, dirt, and moisture.

At the monopod's base is a redesigned rubber foot which features a pivoting ball-joint for smooth tilts and twists. Users may also remove the foot if necessary and replace it with optional rubber feet or an optional metal spike. The GM2542 also features Gitzo's standard textured hand grip for enhanced ergonomics and a removable wrist strap for increased security.

Love it the best Monopod, ever. I carry it with me on hikes and backpacking. I love this for quick wildlife photos, I was actually able to add a RRS quick release plate. So I can mount a lens or camera super fast vs trying to screw on the Monopod.

I am new to content creation, and I am not at all familiar with these tools. I bought this monopod for a drone-like shots. Actually, I am very satisfied for my purchase because this monopod is really very light; therefore, it is easy to take out to film outdoors. Heads up, just when turning any of the three locks to extend the monopod just make sure not to turn it beyond the black circle limitation so that the lock can do its locking job at the edge; otherwise, the extended part can be extended off the monopod.

To clarify on the set screws.. There are two set screws, are these for tightening against the monopod below the disk or against a monopod head above the disk? Thanks!
Asked by: Dan
The set screws would be tightened from below the disk to prevent a head from twisting off.
