Manfrotto XPRO Overview

The MVMXPRO500US XPRO Monopod from Manfrotto is a 4-section aluminum video support equipped with Manfrotto's FLUIDTECH base and a 500-series fluid tilt head.

A versatile kit for nearly any videographer or filmmaker, the MVMXPRO500US can often travel places tripods cannot, providing additional stability and supporting heavy equipment when required. The 4-section design, paired with an aluminum construction, results in an easy-to-transport setup weighing just 4.6 lb. With a maximum height of 79.9" and a minimum height of just 30.7", the MVMXPRO500US can be adjusted to suit users of varying heights and for various different tasks.

While the design of a monopod is relatively simple, the Manfrotto Monopod+ line utilizes some innovative features which make using the MVMXPRO500US fast and easy. The primary feature of the line is the inclusion of Manfrotto's patented Power-Lock flip locks which snap open and closed to ensure fast operation and a tight, unyielding lock. The D-shaped leg sections have been designed not only to compliment the Power-Locks but also to prevent unwanted twisting between leg sections and increase the stability of the monopod. The integrated FLUIDTECH base utilizes a "3D" fluid cartridge which facilitates smooth pans and tilts from a single connection point. The cartridge may be locked vertically to isolate movement to only the 360° panning axis, allowing for smooth, level, uninterrupted rotation. While engaging the vertical lock may allow the monopod to stand, it does not support free-standing function and should not be left unattended when not in use.

The MVMXPRO500US also includes a modified 500 series fluid head which allows the user to tilt their camera forward and backward on a counter-balanced mechanism. The head may be used while moving freely or locked in place via a side-mounted knob. Control of the head is facilitated by a single, long control arm which may be adjusted to the height of the user. A 500-series quick release plate is also included, allowing for quick vertical mounting and dismounting of your camera or camcorder.

Additionally, the Monopod+ line also features Manfrotto's standard rubber leg warmer for an improved grip and an adjustable hand strap for extra security. A 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread is provided under the 500 series head should the user choose to use the monopod without a head for direct camera mounting.

Manfrotto XPRO Reviews

Great overall.

This monopod is sturdy and camlocks work smooth. I used it to support Canon R3 camera with RF600mm F4 lens as well as Canon EOS 5D MARK IV with EF 800mm F5.6 lens and hat no issue with either setup. I like the fact that the head of it has a dual sized screw so you don't have to get any additional adapters. Very compact and lightweight which is ideal in those situations when you need to switch to hand held in a jiffy. Definitely something to consider for hiking with ( I had hiked with Gitzo tripod weighing 7lbs with gimbal head before I got this one ) huge size and weight advantage.

Use As Monopod NOT Tripod

If the reviewers would use this tripod AS A MONOPOD and NOT a tripod then this would have a perfect score. I've never been a big Manfrotto user but they do make quality stuff. A monopod is NOT meant to be left unattended!!! It's meant to give some stability while on the go. If you need more then get a tripod! It's really that simple!

Very sturdy. Holds firm with my Canon EOS R5, 70-100mm 2.8 lens, and 600 EX-RT flash.

I am using it once with Fujifilm xh2s with 35mm f2 lens , it's very tiny camera but the foot hold could support very well and very difficult to level. 3 star

This is the first Monopod I have purchased after untold years of photography. I have a Manfrotto tripod which I have had for a long time and it is a rock. Do not have the need for the really expensive Monopod and was fearful of the very low-priced ones so went with the brand I know. I am not disappointed. The leg clamps are very easy to use to set your height. I am tall so set the lower two sections at full extension and us the top for finial height.

Great purchase

Can this be used with a gimbal to get overhead video?
Asked by: Alan
I don't know of any gimbal attachment but I do use it for overhead shots and it works great. Gimbals are way over rated and besides if you have the monopod in the air you need the camera angled at what you are shooting which is usually downward so you wouldn't want to use a gimbal. It has a good extension, you need to triple check that your camera is tightened down really well so it doesn't fall.

The monopod comes with a little tool that tightens it, or use a socket wrench.

What is the counter weight for this head? I have a DSLR that weighs about 4.5 pounds and this head flips forward with the plate pulled all the way back.
Asked by: William
Unfortunately there's no tilt lock on the head, so I designed a "tilt blocker" that can be 3D printed - it's just a big hunk of plastic that slides under the bridge area of the head. It's called Monopod Tilt Blocker (Thing 3300384) on Thingiverse.

Can I get this monopod with an arca swiss quick release head?
Asked by: David
This monopod accepts Video Style 500PLong Plates. However you could always add an Arca Style Clamp to the top of this monopod, such as B&H # SUMAC14. Once you have such a clamp you will be able to use Arca Plates. https://bhpho.to/2b47Qpc

Would the DJI Ronin S plate fit in the head?
Asked by: Elazar
You can fit Ronin S plates into the Manfrotto. You can’t fit Manfrotto plates on the Ronin S. If you machine the sides and part of the underneath of the Manfrotto plates, they will fit the Ronin S.
