6TB G-DRIVE Thunderbolt 3 External Hard Drive is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quiet and fast, but you need the right cable... I just took delivery of this drive today and immediately started to test its speed copying large photo folders to it. The USB-C/TB3 to USB-C/TB3 cable that comes with the unit is a 1 meter cable and does not give you the advertised speeds of the product. At most, I was getting 60 MB/s blips but averaging around 20 MB/s for a 10 Gb photo folder. Luckily, I had recently bought a 0.5 meter version of the cable and tried the same folder again. Max speed was now around 250 MB/s and sustaining that rate for 95 percent of the transfer. Occasionally, the rate would lower to around 150 MB/s for 2-3 seconds. So go find you a 1/2 meter TB3 to TB3 cable to use with this drive. Sad though this drive does not supply one at this price. Otherwise, I would give 5 stars. Would give 4.5 stars if I could.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Product fills my needs well I use this hard drive within a Mac environment, and it operates flawlessly. I like the two thunderbolt 3 connectors, as I can daisy-chain multiple drives without taking up more than one port on my laptop or dock. I use the drive as a primary data and photo storage drive, and have had great experiences with G-Tech Drives for many years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Hard Drive, but.... it's noisier than my iMac Pro which kind of surprises me a little. However, it's not that annoying and it's a pretty darn fast which will be good in transferring video files over to it when I'm done with them. I might even try to work on the disk, but I might just want to stick work on the internal ssd to take advantage of that. Anyways a good external hard drive at a decent price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well but annoying clicking noise I use the drive for photographs--storage and for editing. Being a Thunderbolt 3 drive it has been fast and, thus far, quite satisfactory for accuracy. There has been a clicking noise when the disc is running, recording and reading. I have not noted and deficiencies in operation but this concerns me about whether the noise may signal a problem that will cause the drive to fail sooner or whether it is normal. My Lacie drives and my other G-drives do not make this noise

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far it meets or exceeds my expectations I read a lot of reviews on B&H and other sites that were not very complimentary regarding this drive. This is my first G-Tech drive (I usually purchase WD drives). Frankly, I decided to purchase this drive to get the added speed (7200RPM) for processing pictures/video and because it has a Thunderbolt connection for my Mac. I have used it for pictures and really don't notice any difference in overall speed of process versus my 5400RPM drives. It did seem pretty quick when I had to transfer a set of huge data files over to it. This unit runs quite quiet. It gets warm to the touch but no warmer than the WD drives I use. I have only had this drive for a few weeks. No complaints but we will see what happens over time. Some of my WD drives have been in almost constant use for over 5 years with no problem and I hope that the G-Tech proves to be as rugged. This is a very nice looking package that looks good with my new MacBook Pro. After talking with G-Tech support, I partitioned the drive and reformatted it with no problems. G-Tech provides desktop G-Tech drive icons that so you can easily distinguish the drive on your desktop when mounted, I like that it has an on/off switch so you can leave it plugged in but not turned on when not in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very reliable Mac formatted external drive I have been using this drive for the past few years and it has performed exactly as described. It's also very easy to install. I just purchased another one for my employee to back up her computer, which mostly contains a lot of large video and image files that require large capacity storage.
