Don't expect a fast transfer. Only 400MB/second on my 16MBP, but sooooo much better than the Atomos sled.

Good and Solid

I bought 2 1 with Samsung SSD 1 TB 1 With Samsung SSD 8 TB both used as external Drive for Video Production work. the Connector gives me average speed 450 to 500 MB which is great for 4k Edit I like the Tiny small red LED in it, when SSD is working.

I bought a few different brands in 2020 when I got my Shogun and since then only this Angelbird has lasted - no problem. Other 2 brands that were only $5-$8 cheaper failed in the first 6 months so it's not worth the savings for sure. Just waiting for the Thunderbolt-4 version!

Works great, portable.

If you have an older computer that doesn't use a USB-C this is going to be pretty much useless to you. Other than that, it works, on a 2tb without additional power needed.

Nice and portable, but flimsy power connection

The 12v port is an odd size, required an adapter pack, and its very loose. Cause my drive to stop because it became too loose.

Did anyone discover which power adapter is compatible with the provided 12v power port?

I should clarify my earlier response. The power supply for many 12V items such as the atomos will need a 3.5x1.35mm Male to 5.5x2.1mm Female Adapter Connector

I have a Laptop with a usb c port, but my external drive Samsung 860 QVO is not detected, may because the enclosure is a usb c gen2 and the port of the laptop has only 900 mA. Can you tell me if i use this adapter with the power of 12 V, my laptop will detected the ssd driver 860QVO? thanks
Asked by: Alfredo
The 12 V input is only a direct passthrough for drives that use 12 V power. All the 5 V power to the drive is from the USB connection only, so if you have a power limited USB port, (which I have), whether you plug in the 12 V connection or not, it will not be able to start the drive at all. There is not voltage reduction circuitry in the adapter to convert the 12 V into 5 V, so you will need to inject power via a USB hub or some other device to power drives your USB ports cannot power. I validated this result using circuit tracing, pin tracing, and testing with multiple drives that require 5 V power only and 12 V and 5 V power.

what its transfer speed with and without 12v Supply ?
Asked by: Hicham
The transfer speed is around 550MB/s. The 12v power connection does not affect transfer speed, but it is required for 3.5" drives, which will not run without a power source. 2.5" drives do not require this additional power and will not be affected by it.

Anyone ever try this with bmpcc 4k? Would be pretty cool to use any standard ssd with it. I already have a 12v supply.
Asked by: Micah
As long as your BMPCC supports standard USB mass storage devices (which it does) it should work. This is based on an off the shelf ASMedia SATA to USB chipset which is commonly used in external hard drives (Validated using the ASMedia firmware flashing tool). As a side note, if you want to check SMART status of your drive, the ASMedia controller in this adapter has the SMART functions enabled, so you can connect it to your computer to check. This way you can ensure it is running reliably when you have a critical project you need to shoot.
