Sennheiser ME2-II overview

  • 1Description

Available in black, the ME 2-II from Sennheiser is an omnidirectional lavalier microphone designed to capture speech and vocals. It takes concepts found in the original ME-2 and expands them, focusing the frequency response and offering full compatibility with digital RF-transmission systems. Whereas the ME-2 could introduce noise if the capsule and transmit antenna were over 7.9” away from each other, the ME 2-II is 100% compliant with digital RF systems, such as the SpeechLine Digital Wireless system.

Also, where the ME-2 gave you a frequency response of 30 Hz to 20 kHz, this iteration narrows the range from 50 Hz to 18 kHz. The focusing allows the capsule to hone in more on appropriate tonalities, minimizing the capture of frequencies piercingly high and unnecessarily low in the context of vocal recording.

Additionally, this model features a lighter-weight housing compared to the original, as well as an improved clip and an integrated windscreen. A cable length of 5.2' provides enough slack for nearly any situation, at the end of which sits a 3.5mm threaded EW connector for compatible systems, such as the AVX, XS Wireless 1, XS Wireless 2, and more.

    Sennheiser ME2-II reviews

ME 2-II Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone (Black) is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap Plastic Lapel Clip Broke in One Week We love the Sennheiser wireless mics, sound good and have been pretty reliable and serviceable. We have been buying the ME 2 replacement microphones for over six years now. They used a metal spring lapel clip which lasted about as long as the mic wiring (roughly 12 months in daily TV reporting). Just received the new ME 2-II a few weeks ago. After a couple of uses, the plastic lapel clip breaks. The old replacement metal clips do not fit at all. Horrible quality on the clip, the mic itself is fine. I contacted Sennheiser, hopefully they will fix this soon.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great mic but cheap clip. I love the new mic. The fixed windscreen is just one less thing to go missing but this change requires a different mic clip. Unfortunately the new clip is a cheap plastic one and not a metal one like the previous model has. My clip broke after a few weeks. Replacement clips are a special order item B&H: SE564565 and cost $12.99. The old metal clip costs less at $7.13. I don't care about the almost $6 difference but I do care the the clips break too easily and this isn't an easy replacement item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little microphone I had to buy this to replace the lav mic that came with my Sennheiser G3 system. I have had that for at least 6-7 years now, works great but the mic had a lot of cable wear and finally broke due to so much usage. This new mic and cable seem a little more robust that what came with my system years ago. Sounds great, no issues, the price was right and it works great with my system since everything is made by Sennheiser.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Clip — oh, that clip! Mic: what you’d expect. Excellent! The Clip: a head scratcher. It keeps falling off, breaking or getting lost. Replacements cost $13.00 a pop for a little plastic. Just ordered another. The metal clips on the older ME2 don’t fit. The mic base is too big for them. Advice: order one back up clip which will come in handy on location shoots if you lose it or it breaks.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mic good. Windsceen & clip no good. Mic is fine but the clip broke after 2 uses. I can't use the old ME 2 metal wire clip because I can't take the windscreen off of this mic. The other drawback is that it's now harder if I want to tape the mic inside clothing via the cloth stickies because of the windscreen head.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New clip design does NOT stay on well. Prepare to lose it. Mic clip is very loose and will most likely fall out when taking the mic in and out of your bag. Not sure why they redesigned it to be so loose. The original design was perfect. DO NOT BUY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's great- one caution Yes, it's a great mic. I use it with my G2s and my AVX systems. I love the built in windscreen .. it works! The one caution. The mic clip .. when attaching it, slide it up cable to engage with the mic head DO NOT press on it place from the side. The clip will eventually snap. Not a big deal to slide it up from the cable, just don't forget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The plastic clip is good. The plastic clip is held onto the metal clip by a tiny screw. If you think it's broken it may have just come unscrewed.
