The Light Storm LS C300d LED Light from Aputure is a Chip on Board (COB) designed fixture with a 5500K color temperature that consumes only 300W of power while outputting 4451 fc of light with a standard reflector at a distance of 1.6'. In addition to power efficiency, this fixture also has a CRI rating of 95 and a TLCI rating of 96, indicating an accurate rendering of color. And the LS C300d can be seen but not heard which is ideal for sound sensitive environments. The intelligent cooling system employs temperature sensitive fans to regulate the heat. Even at maximum power the fan is undetectable by most people.
The LS C300d's performance is backed up by its design. The all-aluminum construction goes through numerous fabrication steps. The reflector and accessory mount is the widely used Bowens S-Type, and the wired controller is also separated from the body of the light, making it lighter and reducing its size. There's also an included wireless remote that allows you to control on/off and dimming functions from as far away as 492'. The LS C300d is ready for worldwide use thanks to its 110-240 VAC power supply. It also has a battery plate allowing you to use V-mount batteries for external power when mains current is unavailable. This LS C300d is delivered with a carrying bag to protect the light during travel and storage.

Very bright, totally unreliable. �Shuts off by itself
Bottom line: poor quality control. �Didn't even last a day.
I found the Aputure C300d to be quite bright so I disagree with the other reviews on that front. �But that is beside the point - During a day of testing, the light failed. �It was on for an hour or so and worked great. �Later in the day, I turned it on again and it would just shut off after 10-20 sec. �Tried finding ways to reset it and different cooling modes. �The thing still wouldn't�stay on. �I reached out to the company but was not impressed with their response. �I hope they get the quality control worked out as I think this light has a lot of�potential.

Issue Resolved and I'm extremely happy
This light has great value and is a perfect fit for any production (interviews, music videos, films..). The first light I had bought had some overheating issue. B&H offered me a replacement and I haven't had any issues since then.
Also Aputure confirmed that the overheating issue has been since fixed on current and future batch. So that's really awesome to hear that they were able to address it.
The other good news is that the replacement light came with longer cables.� Currently, I got it set up with the Aputure light dome and works wonder, nice soft light.
Honestly, It will be awhile before I get another light. This is a great an investment.

Not as bright as they make it look
Great little light and a great company pushing gear tech forward. The 300D is compact and the build quality for what you pay for is great. But don't�expect it to work wonders... Not much of an impact on a daylight shoot... And found it hard to push the light through diffusion. I was hoping to use it as a decent compact key light but�will now only beable to use it�as a fill light.
As a suggestion�to Aputure (if your listening and if want to enjoy slaying the market). Double the light output (600D) + bi color�option. It would cost a pretty penny per light but for sure you would take the market by storm. Fingers crossed you have something in the works. I'm ready to pay :)

Bright but perhaps not as bright as they say.
It seems like a great light, excellent quality, very versatile. It's certainly the brightest LED I've owned. Head to head with our tungsten 1k lights though, its certainly brighter but not 2x brighter. I haven't measured with a light meter but it's maybe more of a 1300-1500w equivalent, not a 2k equivalent.

Light is defective�and randomly turns off
The first day I used this light outdoor, it worked great. No issues. But I had to return it for an exchange because it started randomly shutting off especially when you tilt it up trying to bounce the light to the ceiling. I hope Aputure can fix this issue because it's a great light.

Defective...Keeps Shutting Off
I was super excited to receive this light. But when it arrived I tested it and found that the light continually shuts down when set between 90-100 percent brightness. I checked around on the internet and noticed that others are having the same problem. I hope Aputure fixes the defect because I see a lot of potential with this fixture.

Extremely happy
I agonized over the decision to buy these (I got four in total), as I was also considering the Astra 6x units from Litepanels. I liked the flexibility of the C300d in terms of adding light modifiers, but reports of some issues with early production units was troubling. In the end, Aputure's highly visible and communicative presence on social media convinced me to go for it, and I'm glad I did. I've used them (with Aputure's Light Dome on the key) on a couple of shoots now, and they've been fantastic. Setup with AC power is a little onerous, but the output is great and they've been nice and quiet. The case they ship in is wonderful, though I've got a larger Pelican-style case on order, for air travel.
It seems there's a little bit of angst out there towards Aputure, which seems rather unwarranted to me. Their equipment is reasonably priced, but that doesn't mean you're making huge compromises in terms of quality. I'd imagine some other manufacturers feel somewhat threatened by that — and they should. As for me, I feel supported and I've got no regrets.

Very poor quality control...
I am disappointed in the quality control of Aputure and B&H for sending me a unit that was either refurbished or just very poorly put together.
The light is being blocked by the housing so not all of the light is getting through. The way the housing is designed makes it so that light is bouncing back into the unit because the COB is not centered.
There also wasn't a protection label on the COB like the manual says there will be. You can see the residue from when the label was there so I am assuming it was refurbished.
The unit has two control boxes and the one that the AC power from the wall plugs into is very loud. I would compare it to a loud computer fan. If you are filming an interview with this light you will need to get the box as far as away as possible and maybe cover it with a �sound blanket.�
Overall this is a great light that I have used before and loved it. With the quality control issue and loudness of the fan I am giving it two stars as well as returning it to get another one.
