Canon CP1300 Reviews

Convenient

I got this for events where the client wants immediate prints for the guests. The quality is good enough, and it's fast enough. I didn't have high expectations for such a cheap price, but the clients are really happy with the prints. It does go through the ink pretty quickly, so make sure you have plenty of the cartridges.

Over 10yrs. with the same dpi and picture quality.

I would love a higher dpi but I gave up one coming out. It's a great printer wonderful for portable printing to appease the grandparents.

Replacing an old HP PhotoSmart GoGo 335 portable photo print

By Dan

I really liked my HP PhotoSmart GoGo 335 6x4 photo printer. Great print quality, portable size, and battery powered. However, since it was over 15 years old, Windows no longer had printer drivers for it, it had no wireless capability, the SD card reader was not HC or XC compliant (limited to 2GB SD cards), batteries failed and were totally not replaceable, and lastly, HP has obscenely run up the price on print cartridges to over $70 each! At least wired Pict Bridge still works. This Canon printer solves all those problems. I tested it's print quality versus the HP, and it's not quite as good, but close enough, and it costs half as much to print a 6x4 photo as the HP. It has wireless capability, a good portable battery option, reads all SD cards, and is Pict Bridge capable. It's even a little smaller than the HP, so a bit easier to take on the road. The photo shows two prints, The top one is from the HP Photosmart printer, the bottom one from the Selphy CP1300. The Hp photo shows better dynamic range. The water spots on the HP printer came after the printout, but demonstrates that the photos are not immune to water droplets, the Canon prints are supposed to be protected by a clear layer on the photo.

Nice printer, crops photos.

I like this printer very much. The one problem is that it crops every photo a little, no way I can find to turn it off. Even if you pre crop the image. Things that might not be obvious: The printer is very small, about the size of a fat paperback. It's a dye sub printer, not an inkjet or zink. The paper size is actually hagaki, a little smaller than 4x6.

Works like a charm

TL;DR It works better than I expected, and I recommend it. I'm a commercial photographer based in NYC, and a client wanted prints on site for a charity golf event. I haven't done printing on site in 11years, and the last time I did I was able to rent a dye-sublimation printer for a NY rental house. They're no longer available locally, so I looked into buying one. The least expensive commercial-grade dye-sub printer was $495, but none was available anywhere, so I bought two Canon Selphy CP-1300 printers. They're not intended for commercial use, and are slower than commercial printers, but we were able to deliver the prints my client needed running two at a time. Print quality is very good, and I have a happy client. One note from my digital tech: they don't seem to like print queues of multiple prints, so one at a time. We printed from Lightroom over a WiFi network (we brought our own WiFi router so we wouldn't have to share bandwidth, and it worked without a hitch).

Pretty handy when you want it!

I used to use a commercial thermal transfer print when I was shooting events. The one I had ended up out living the support for it and since then I have retired from the event circus. The price per print is a little high for a 4x6, about 25-30 depending on where you get your paper ...but, for the connivence of being able to print an image at home vs the gas and time to run to the store it's very well worth it. Also the initial cost of this printer is a steal! Add to that the fact that thermal dye prints are virtually UV light proof. No fading over time. Great buying I'm not looking back.

Can I use regular photo paper on this printer?
Asked by: Yick Fai
I've read on a different review site, from someone who left a review, that although the photo paper does go through the printer, the pictures do not print correctly. I assume due to some sort of interaction between the Selphy ink and Selphy paper.

I have older paper cassettes from my Selphy 910 (specifically the card size). Will this work in the 1300, or does Canon force you to buy all new cassette paper holders again? I use this for work as a Polaroid printer.

The paper cartridges for the Selphy 910 would work with the 1300.
