Luxli 1X1 overview

  • 1Description

Light up your subject on a film set or in the studio with the Luxli Timpani 1x1 RGBAW LED Light. The 1x1 format is popular among LED lights for its desirable output characteristics and the relatively compact enclosure among studio solutions. Using a 672 RGBAW LED array, the Timpani brings countless creative lighting options for professionals that require standard color temperature adjustability and color tuning across the RGB spectrum. Navigating the light's menus is simple using the LCD screen, knobs, and buttons on the rear panel. Even if you don't need the RGB color modes, the white light output by the Timpani can be adjusted from 2800K to 10,000K in CCT mode and it retains a highly accurate at 95 CRI and 97 TLCI at most color temperature settings. Dimming and color temperature can be easily adjusted in fine increments, 1% for dimming, and 50K for color temperature using the rear knobs.

Where the Timpani comes into its own is with the RGB and filter modes. In the RGB mode, any color on the color wheel can be selected with 1° increments using the rear knob. Saturation can also be controlled to effectively mix the desired color with white light. Using the free iOS/Android mobile app, colors can be sampled with an eye-dropper and communicated to the Timpani via Bluetooth from up to 30' away. Special effects can also be selected, from strobing that imitates lightning strikes and explosions to orchestrated timed color shifts and warning lights. Each effect is adjustable in timing and color temperature. Filter effect buffs will appreciate the filter mode. Select from 150 classic filters to customize the white light output. Any color temperature available in the CCT mode can be modified by the filter samplings.

For power, the Timpani has a 4-pin XLR input. A power supply is included, and a V-mount plate comes attached to the rear of the fixture, letting you power the Timpani in the field with compatible V-mount batteries. A yoke that terminates in a 5/8" receiver is included for stand-mounting the fixture. Each light comes with a photometric sheet print-out showing light fidelity measurements for that individual fixture by serial number.

Operating Modes

RGB Color Mode
Scroll through the RGB color wheel in 1° increments. Dial in nearly any color in the visible spectrum.
CCT Mode
The traditional correlated color temperature (CCT) mode allows you to accurately adjust your color temperature from 3000 to 10,000K in 50K increments. This lets you emulate any lighting condition, from the cool hues of bright sunlight to the warmth of a tungsten bulb.
Gel Filter Mode
Originally introduced with the Luxli Cello the gel filter mode on the Timpani provides a whole slew of color options. Set your white balance and then select between 150 colored gels. The Timpani displays the color, taking your CCT temperature setting into account. It's as realistic as if you're putting a gel in front of the actual light.

Bluetooth Control with the Conductor Mobile App
Install the Conductor app on your mobile device and explore incredible lighting effects wirelessly via Bluetooth 4.2. Illuminate your subject with any hue of light you can imagine. Create customized lighting animation effects. Use the eyedropper feature to match any color within an image or a video. Combine multiple Luxli Orchestra units and synchronize them to operate them at once.
Intuitive On-Unit Interface with LCD Display
The built-in LCD display offers a simple and intuitive interface. Easily adjust brightness and color with the dedicated knobs, and switch between the RGB, filter, CCT, and special effects modes with the touch of a button.
Amber and White LEDs
The "A" and "W" in RGBAW stand for amber and white, 2800K and 5600K color temperature LED's, respectively. The Timpani mixes the output of these two LEDs to ensure exact color temperature in CCT mode, and accurate color reproduction in Gel mode.
Precise Color Rendering
You won't need to spend your time at the computer, color correcting your shots. With a TLCI rating of over 97 and a CRI rating of over 95 at most color temperatures, the Timpani's color output is extremely accurate.
Special Effects
The Timpani has ten preprogrammed special effects with adjustable parameters for incredibly realistic lighting effects. Whether you're recreating lighting from fireworks, a police car's flashing lights, or a campfire in a mild breeze, the Timpani has an effect that will make your lighting look realistic and dramatic.
Included Yoke Mount
The Timpani includes a sturdy all-metal yoke with tilt control and a 5/8-inch receiver for convenient light-stand mounting.

    Luxli 1X1 reviews

Timpani 1x1 RGBAW LED Light is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1x1 Magic I've been using the Luxli Orchestra series on various production for over a year, since I discovered them at NAB 2017. The Viola and it's big sister the Cello have been invaluable to me when I've needed to add color to my lighting set ups. The ability to dial in almost any color you want is truly a game changer. It's one of those things you don't realize you need until you can do it. The only thing I found myself saying while using the lights was "I wish they were bigger and more powerful." And as if Luxli had a direct connect to my brain, they introduce the Timpani! A 1x1 led light panel with RGB(AW) capabilities. I've been using this thing for just about a week and I'm totally in love with it. It has all of the functionality of the Cello in a bigger package. Not only can you dial in your color, it has gel presets for just about EVERY color you can think of. As a person who uses vibrant color in my work a lot, this is AMAZING! The light quality coming from this is fantastic and I was able to fill a room just with this alone. It does not come with barn doors, but I simply put an Angler softbox and grid on it and I was able to control the light just fine. As far as build quality goes, it is solid. I wouldn't throw this thing around haphazardly but I'm not afraid of it getting broken if it takes a hit or two. The only real issues I have with the build design is that you have to plug the XLR cable coming from the battery plate directly into the power input in order to use v-mount power. It's not a deal breaker, It's just not the cleanest of solutions. When it comes to ease of use, it's dead simple. When operating the unit from the built in controls on the back (with that beautiful LCD screen) you can be up and running in minutes. My issue with the Orchestra series has always been the mobile app. It's not that it is overly complicated or ugly, its just that the design and layout need improvement. You have this beautiful piece of cinema tech that you can tell a lot of thought went into, and it's controlled by an app that seems like an afterthought. Something like that can be fixed though. The important thing is that the hardware and science behind the hardware are not only solid, but next level. All and all I love this thing so much. The creative possibilities that this is unlocking (coupled with the Viola and Cello) are kind of mind blowing. *slow clap, high five*
