    BenQ SW271 reviews

    SW271 27" 16:9 4K IPS Monitor is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive Replaces my old NEC Multisync 2090UXi. Very solidly built. Beautiful image and the included (via downlod) calibration software works well with my xRite i1Display Pro. I have a Thunderbolt connection on my PC so the included USB-C cable carries both the display signal and USB data needed for calibration. So only one cable is required and I can plug my i1Display Pro into an easily accessible USB port on the PC rather than one on the back of the monitor. The "hockey puck" controller buttons are customizeable and allows be to quickly shift from my Calibrated RGB setting I use for photoprocessing to 709 for video work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far So Good I bought this monitor with hesitation not knowing anything about BenQ but so far I am happy with purchase. Monitor is pretty uniform across the LCD panel and color is excellent. I was able to calibrate the monitor both with BenQ software and also with X-Rite software with no problem. Both software generated very good calibration. My photos looking super sharp on this 4K monitor with excellent colors. The only thing that I should mention is for older Mac users! in my case Mac pro 2012 system font becomes small and so far I have not been able to remedy that! You can go Finder and make some changes to be able to read the word but all of the Applications fonts, tool bar and icons become very small.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Bad broadcasting of the light across the screen I m using monitors through my work as a professional photographer and rely on a very good quality pictures. I bought this professional screen thinking it would be amazing, I got twice unhappy. The first one had huge spills of green color on left and right upper corner , the second one Is better but still has a default in the upper left and bottom right corner. If you work on dark pictures it will be very annoying.Like other people says it is really a gamble to get a good one.I decided to send the second one back as for that price for a professional screen I expect quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great so far Very impressed with this monitor upon first few hours of use. The images make my similar-sized (albeit lower resolution) NEC monitor look like garbage. I am already trying to rationalize buying a second one. My only complaint is that attaching the stand to the base is less intuitive than it ought to be. B&H expedited shipping was really fast!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing monitor quirky software I don't think there is any other monitor in this price range that offers anything like the quality of this monitor. The brightness is consistently below 2% Delta E. It has the ability to store 14 bit luts. It has presets for AdobeRGB RGB, Rec709, and DCI-P3 color spaces. The problem is with the calibration software: Palette Master Element. There are a couple of quirks: 1) your calibration device must be plugged into the usb port ON THE MONITOR itself, or it won't work. This is clearly enough stated, but 2) you have to open the software WITHOUT the device plugged in, then when it can't see it, you plug it in. And you may have to quit and restart the software and then it will work. Otherwise it will hang on a screen showing you how to move the diffuser screen on the i1 Display Pro (the device I happen to use) out of the way to allow direct access to the sensor with the lens on it. I spent an hour with tech support on the phone trying to remedy this problem. I thought maybe the software needed an update but the guy kept claiming that the version of the calibration software had nothing to do with BenQ and that it must pertain to the iProfiler software. Not true. It didn't help that he knew nothing about macs, which I use, nor did he mention the very odd fact that you have to start the software THEN plug in the calibration device. This HAS to be a common problem. He suspected that the Palette Master Element software was being subverted by the iProfiler software running some process in the background. And he was probably right that it was running some process in the background, but it wasn't the whole story. After a lot of internet searching I found a de-install script and some other hints on what to get rid of from the iProfiler install. That still didn't do anything. Finally, I read the manual!! Ha! Guess I should have started there. And there I found the instruction to open the software and then plug in the calibration device. Bottom line: this is a great monitor, but the calibration software has some incredibly weird quirks, or should I say undocumented features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great so far I upgraded from a very good 27 1440p LG that also reproduces 99-100% of adobe rgb. I've been wanting to upgrade to 4k for a while for the extra detail / sharpness. I'm a long time photography hobbyist and create prints and also like to play games on my pc. This monitor does both quite well and I would definitely recommend it. - the build is solid. even the stand and hood are of excellent quality. - it's incredibly sharp. I sit at a normal distance behind a desk and i dont think i'd need any more dpi. side by side there is a big difference between this and the 1440p. Images look very crisp. its enough improvement to make me want to go through my library of photos again. - colors are great. i used a colormunki to calibrate which isn't supported by the software and hardware calibration but the colors look great. - the hdr setting is a bit weird. windows 10 supports it but i think the adobe rgb color space on this display looks better and so I'm sticking to that. i did try Destiny 2 which supports HDR and it works and the colors are vibrant but it's a bit bright and you can't adjust brightness in HDR mode. I still need to play with this to understand how to best utilize it, but it's not a very important feature for me right now. Warning - I use a gtx 1080 and when I first plugged it in and calibrated the blacks were incredibly bright, more gray than black. I was very disappointed and was going to return it, then i found in the Nvidia control panel display setting I was set to use default, but when i changed this to Full dynamic range it fixed everything. The blacks are now darker and more uniform than my LG which had very dark blacks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best for the price This monitor is everything I was looking for. The first one I received had a row of dead pixels and I had to wait forever for a replacement, but that's due to being an early adopter and them being out of stock after the return. The USB C connection is what I really wanted for my new MBP 15", no power delivery but I was ok with that. The resolution and color are outstanding. You will get the best colors by calibrating to the native panel gamut to a 16 bit LUT with an i1 Display Pro. Many of the other settings in the calibration utility create desaturated colors (specifically in the reds for me) which are accurate for Adobe RGB and such but are not good for daily use. The stand is excellent ergonomically and robust (heavy). Other things of note, the USB 3 hub only works at USB 3 speeds if you set your refresh rate at 30hz instead of 60hz. I just use it as a 2.0 hub for keyboard & tablet, while connecting a full speed usb3 hub directly to another port on the MBP. I believe this is an issue with the 5K LG as well, pushing all the display pixels takes up too much bandwidth for much else. I considered the LG 5K, however with it having only USB C type connections, plugging anything else into it would require an adapter and may be quirky. This display checks off all the boxes for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great monitor with incomplete documentation This monitor is a huge step up from my older 24" Viewsonic. No pixel issues and great clarity for critical work in LR. My main gripe is with the documentation and support. I hooked up the monitor with a DP cable (NOT supplied with the monitor) and it worked fine. When I tried to calibrate the monitor (after downloading the Palette Master program) I kept getting an error message about missing files. After calling customer support I discovered that the supplied special USB-C cable needed to be attached for calibration (NOT mentioned in the included directions: only visible if you download the user manual for the Palette Master program). Once attached, it worked fine. Would have been nice to save the several hours it took to figure this out! Another gripe is with the Windows driver the manual strongly suggested I download from the BENQ website and install. This resulted in a marked color shift when changing from Develop to Library modules in LR. After another hour on the internet I learned that this is due to a faulty monitor driver. I switched back to the generic sRGB driver and everything is working fine. I didn't try to attach the hood, so I can't comment on that process, but the instructions look fairly cryptic! Summary: great monitor. Accurate colors once calibrated (but I haven't printed yet so jury still out on print-matching accuracy). Switching modes on the fly is a cool feature. Needs better instructions not buried in an online resource and better driver.
