Mevo Plus Live Event overview

  • 1Description

Designed to work with a multicamera-style app, the pocket-sized Livestream Mevo Plus lets you to capture any live event, choose camera angles in real time on your mobile device, and stream to Livestream, Facebook, YouTube, Periscope, or Twitter. Whether for a wedding, business conference, school concert, or anything else, Mevo Plus provides you with a multicamera production solution in a small package, and it's easy to use for consumers and event professionals alike. You can stream live in Full HD 1080p resolution, and record events in Ultra HD 4K to an included 16GB microSD card for post-production or just to have a copy of the event.

Mevo Plus is the result of a re-engineering of the original Mevo. It has been upgraded with electronic image stabilization and cutting-edge wireless technology to provide a premium streaming experience. You can have your mobile device connected to it from up to 100' away. Only 2.5" in height and requiring no rig, Mevo Plus can be set up and start streaming in seconds without getting in anyone's way. You can use it tabletop or attached to a tripod or stand via the included Mevo mount. For improved audio capture, Mevo Plus also allows you to connect an external microphone to your mobile device or directly via the optional Mevo Boost accessory.

Multicamera? Here's how it works. Mevo Plus features an ultra-wide, 150° all-glass lens and 4K, 12MP image sensor. The live editing app allows you to put up to nine different squares over different areas of the frame, and switch between them as in a multicamera live production by simply tapping on the one you want. For example, put a large square over a large area of the frame, a small square over the face of the bride, and a smaller one over the eyes of the groom, and tap between them, like switching between a master shot and different close-ups. The app is easy to use and allows you to tell a story.

The app also allows you to pan through a shot by dragging left or right, and to zoom in by pinching the square. Moreover, you can have all of this done automatically by selecting Autopilot mode. Using the app's sophisticated face detection technology and advanced scene analysis, Autopilot mode chooses the most interesting shot and edits the stream for you.

You can record and stream, share, or email directly from the app using easy-to-use built-in features. Streaming can be done over Wi-Fi by connecting Mevo Plus and your mobile device to a Wi-Fi network, over an LTE network using Hotspot Mode to stream from virtually anywhere over your mobile carrier network, or via Ethernet using the optional Mevo Boost accessory.

Mevo Plus is powered by an internal battery that provides an hour of streaming time, and comes with an AC power adapter for continuous operation. The Mevo app is compatible with iPhone 5s and higher, iPad with iOS 9 or higher, and with Android 6.0 or higher.

    Mevo Plus Live Event reviews

Plus by Livestream is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nearly Perfect Upgrade From The Original (But Audio?) The Mevo Plus fixes nearly every complaint I have about the original Mevo. General performance is improved, and the new wifi chips inside are nothing short of remarkable. I used to struggle being 15' away from the original Mevo; this past weekend with the Mevo Plus I streamed 1080p from my iPad in a crowded venue from ~40' without direct line-of-sight and it worked fantastic. Never could have done that with the original Mevo. The big problem I have is with audio quality. My Mevo Plus has some weird audio static and popping that's quite distracting. There's a distinct difference in the audio noise floor when switching between the Mevo and my iPad mic. A factory reset of the device didn't help. I've reached out to Mevo support to see if I have a defective unit and will update this review once I hear back from them. I usually hook my Zoom H5 up to the Mevo Boost to get clean audio, but not everyone has that luxury and the point of a device this size is to have a compact self-contained unit for run-and-gun setups. The internal mics don't have to be outstanding, but I'd say mine is borderline not usable, especially for the music concerts I stream. In short, the hardware upgrades from the original Mevo are truly a step up that's worth the extra cash. I'm just hoping my audio issue is a one-off fluke that can be resolved and it isn't an indication of a broader hardware issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can be better Camera works well in 720p, but quality of image is not what you'd expect from a 4k sensor, especially in low light. 1080p problematic when usingFind Faces/Live Follow. Pros: 1. One camera, many shots. No need to install multi-camera setup, as long as Mevo cam in placed in a strategic position where it can make use of multiple angles of the desired subject. 2. HD quality - in perfect light, when using 1080p this camera can capture nice image. 3. Portability: a. Small factor - can fit this camera in hand’s palm. b. Use phone data plan for internet streaming (sufficient data limit required, as video streaming tends to be data hungry). In between: 1.Find Faces/Live Follow - when used (and working as designed), these features identify a human face and follow a person as it moves. However, at times the intelligent tracking is not so intelligent resulting in lost tracking, and with a dead shot (background with no person) which requires the operator to reset the shot or go to a wide shot. 2. Power: When used with the Mevo Boost - up to 10 hours of streaming. Without the Boost: range anxiety with ~ 1 hour on camera battery only. 3. Technical support is prompt, courteous and even works on weekends. They come across as genuinely doing their best to provide the necessary support for customers. Efficiency can be improved, though (see Cons below). 4. Sound is fair when using camera mics. Best sound is via wire connected to phone/tablet or to camera (additional cables required). Cons: 1. When using 1080p, the video and audio would be distorted significantly. Technical support claimed that network was at fault. With bandwidth of 700 Mbps upload (Virtually a 1G network), it is unconceivable for one to see how this can be the cause of such glitch. Also, how come only theFind Faces/Live Follow shots would be affected and not other shots (wide shots, manual shots etc.) 2. When using iPhone (or tablet) to control the Mevo camera via its software, phone/tablet connects to camera via camera's own WIFI. Therefore, phone/tablet cannot broadcast via WIFI (internet provider's WIFI), but only via LTE or Ethernet (connected to Mevo camera only when using the Mevo Boost). A bluetooth connection between phone/tablet and Mevo camera would allow phone/tablet to remain connected to internet via WIFI, while still controlling the Mevo Cam. Conclusion: For the price, camera does a good job. When investing in Mevo Boost, Tripod, Case, Cables etc. and price will increase significantly. To take advantage of ethernet connectivity a Boost is necessary. Great lighting is also a must, as picture quality is best in perfect lighting. Bottom line - for a one person operator, camera does well. Future firmware updates must address the Find Faces/Live Follow. Future hardware upgrades can consider better chip for low-light situations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Recommended- It's kind of like a TV studio on a mic s This is an amazing product IF you keep in mind what it's market is. This NOT a professional TV studio setup. It's a virtual multi-cam setup that streams to Facebook, Periscope, YouTube, Vimeo and it records to a microSD card. I would call it 'semi-professional', but even that's a bit of a stretch. This is for 'everyday' stuff. Things like church services, local bands at the corner bar, high school sports games, panel discussions at conferences and corporate meetings as well as lectures at schools. You're not going to be doing a pro level newscast with this, for instance. The quality is good, but not stellar. It doesn't currently support ANY graphics of any kind. It's not great in low light situations. Again, back to that 'semi-pro' thing. You're not going to replace a 6 camera professional Multicam setup with this. BUT, you ARE going to get an incredibly powerful little setup that works very well in almost any environment that has wifi or good LTE cellular network access. The combo of the Mevo Plus camera and the Boost is particularly powerful in that you get 10 hours of streaming time with the boost, plus, it allows you to plug in USB audio devices for pro-audio sound. Things like a Behringer USB mixer, or USB mics. The boost also has an ethernet port if you've got access to ethernet .. very stable. We use it to stream city council meetings and school board meetings as well as lectures from book authors and business luminaries. It's, by far, the best product for the price out there for its target market of everyday event streaming.. no frills, no fuss, no muss. It works great with my 2017 32GB iPad, iPhone 8 and any android device with 6.x or higher of the OS. Get the Mevo Plus.. not the first generation "Mevo". The first generation camera is still for sale for $100 less and it has weak antenna's that rendered the camera useless far more often than was really acceptable. The Mevo Plus is the same in every way, except it has MUCH better antennae. We had both and the Mevo Plus works flawlessly for us. You can plug in pro audio devices via the boost accessory, or an iRig type setup into your iPad/iPhone/Android phone. Both work nicely and give you a lot of flexibility, from using a USB mic to a mixer to a feed off of a soundboard - all of which I've done successfully with this setup. If they ever add graphics capabilities (lead-in, bottom thirds, and lead-out) this will be a massively useful device for a huge audience of people. Until then, it's still pretty darned cool and very useful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow Total Game Changer I needed to live stream multiple camera angles and tie in audio from a multi-mic field mixer on the cheap. This camera and my cellphone did all of that amazingly well. Mevo is a paradigm shift from computer/broadcast camera streaming to cellular/wi-fi camera streaming. Is it as good as a high-end multi-camera shoot with a big computer switcher station? To some degree "no" and to some degree "yes". If it was all about cinematic quality the answer would be no, but for practical cellular based HD quality live streaming the answer is a RESOUNDING YES!!! No crew, no heavy gear, no cables, no crazy-expensive streaming switcher. Just one Mevo and a smartphone can give you up to 9 angles to cut between while live. Also, you can stream in your choice of HD & SD outputs or just record in 4k. For the money this Mevo camera with it's Boost accessory is game changer for live streaming on social media. You are limited only by your upload bandwidth, micro SD card, and creativity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from On board audio is not up to Pro Quality The onboard camera microphone induces a crackly sound into the audio stream. I have discussed this with MEVO tech support and they say it is a by-product hum of the equipment. It can be overcome by using a plug in microphone on your ipad or phone. The camera image is awesome and the on settings and live switching are easy and intuitive. Its a great product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Performance alway take too long to sync the network with devices to Mevo for live stream. Also power performance is draining way too fast. Charging the Boost is pretty hot to touch.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works most of the time. Sometimes it has issues staying connected. Very finicky with a wifi connection. I'd go with an IP camera and use this for short shoots.
