Tilta NUCLEUS-M overview

  • 1Description

The Tilta Nucleus-M Wireless Lens Control` System features a 1000' transmission range, and comes with two lens drive motors with built-in wireless receivers, a FIZ hand controller, and two handgrips—one to control focus, and the other iris and zoom. The lens drive motors each feature a cine standard 0.8 MOD drive gear and two 7-pin connectors, which enables you to freely swap or interchange each motor. The motors power by daisy-chaining using the 7-pin cables, and each motor includes a 19mm rod clamp with 19 to 15mm reducing bushing.

The FIZ hand controller allows you to control focus, iris, and zoom, and includes a neck strap. The handgrips feature adapters that enable mounting the controllers onto ARRI-compatible rosettes or onto 25/30mm diameter rods, such as those used with gimbals. The system comes packed in a waterproof hard case that protects your gear during transport and storage.

Please note that batteries are not included and must be sourced separately.
The system features three ranges: low, medium, and high. It supports up to 15 channels to select from, and the controllers pair with each motor via the motor ID.
The FIZ hand unit can control three channels (focus, zoom, and iris), as well as override the handgrips.
The motors can calibrate on lenses with or without hard stops, such as a photo lens with follow focus gears.
The motors feature cine standard 0.8 MOD 32 pitch drive gears. Each motor includes a 19mm rod clamp and a 15 to 19mm adapter bushing, allowing you to mount the motors onto either a 15mm or 19mm rod.
The motors power from a D-Tap connector, and then pass power by daisy-chaining via the 7-pin connectors with the included cables.
The FIZ hand controller and each handgrip power via two 18650 3000mAh, 3.7V Li-ion batteries.
The batteries in the FIZ hand controller will last for more than 10 hours, and up to 48 hours in each handgrip, when idle.

    Tilta NUCLEUS-M reviews

Nucleus-M Wireless Lens Control System is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from I wish I could give 5 stars, but I cant The FIZ (thats how they call the main control unit) works great. However, my system came defective, One handle simply does not power up. B&H is taking no responsibility for this, and they tell me to check with Ikan, and Ikan is not taking responsibility neither. Waiting for a reply from Tilta. I really like the unit, but since it came defective and no one is repsonsing for it, I need to rate it low. I hope Tilta comes thru and replaces the not working handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far so Good!!! I went to the tilta store in burbank california... they let me test the nucleus for an hour, walk around the store... answer every question i had about it and even some questions i didn't know to ask. Everything was great and in working order. I purchased from B&H so save money on the taxes or i would've bought directly from the store.... I'm using this with my Sony A7sii with leica r lenses and also on Alexa Amira with with leica summilux primes... works great with both camera systems... torque is great and response is quick... So far so good!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best thing out right now Really the best WFF you can get right now for the money. You can use it for yourself when cam oping or as an AC. My unit works perfectly. The newest update also allows you to power down and save your calibration. I've kept up with this system on the facebook group for a while and decided to get one despite the issues people had with interference. I haven't experience with interference so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better then Bartech... on a par with the best follow focus. It's easy ti operates on its basics, but It takes a while to master it completely. But what would you expect from an item with so many features. It is simply the best follow focus system for the price, or for anything under 5k.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BROKE my A7iii Be VERY carful using this device. I was not. The crux of the problem lies in the fact that the run stop cable included with the tilta EST-17A cage is NOT compatilbe with the Nucleus M handle's Run/Stop button. NOWHERE in the entire manual was this mentioned. So again, DO NOT USE THE RUN STOP CABLE FROM THE TILTA WODEN HANDLE WITH THE NUCLEUS M. IT WILL BREAK YOUR CAMERA. The camera is now refusing to stay on for more than 15 seconds at a time. When it does stay on it goes black every few seconds. You cannot even go into the menu because the camera keeps powering off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tilta Nailed It! I'm really impressed with the level of build quality and function regardless of price and with all of the other professional grade FIZ (focus, iris, zoom) units available on the market costing many times more than the Nucleus M, you just can't go wrong. It also offers a few unique features such as full control of focus, iris, & zoom through the hand grips that open up new ways of operating especially with a gimbal. It's also worth mentioning that there is a long list of accessories for the Nucleus M available from Tilta that really make the system work seamlessly. It's a professional piece of equipment with a long list of features and because of this it takes a bit of set up to get everything working correctly. When I set it up for the first time I thought I had and issue but it turned out it was just a channel setting that was conflicting. The guys over at Tilta have been extremely helpful making sure I got it working to it's full potential and their customer service has been outstanding. Be sure to check out their videos on set up on the Tilta website.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full tilt! Ok first I wanted to keep my new wireless follow focus secret, hoping I’d have an advantage over the rest of the Indy film makers, but then I decided, everyone needs to hear about this thing! This product is a quantum leap over the Indy competition, I’d say Tilta has their sights set on producing gear for the pro market. The nucleus m handset is elegant with is warm wood touches (though I expect this to be it’s weak point), it’s menu’s are easy to navigate, and the set up is easy with the clearly written manual, I can be a little tech phobic, but had no trouble getting it running within 15 min of unboxing. So far the motor has plenty of torque for my old Nikon lenses, and did I mention it comes with a second motor? Right?! Set up for a zoom and focus pull, or a focus pull and iris adjustment, oh and did I mention that it comes with a set of ergonomic handgrips that incorporate all the same controls as the handset. Attached to a shoulder rig, the handles give you a right thumb rocker control, and left and right finger wheel controls options, which you can assign to operate individual motors, making customizing your setup easy and intuitive. With simple lens calibration, control of knob travel ,knob direction, motor torque, signal strength, push button stops, and more, I feel sorry for everyone out there shooting without it, oh but now that I’ve opened my big mouth, I expect I’ll soon see Tilta Nucleus M’s gracing Indy film cameras everywhere (watch out Preston)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent This is the first wireless follow focus system I use, but so far I am in love with it. It links up fast and works seamlessly. It does what it's supposed to do with ease of setup. It's also very quiet and smooth.
