    Samsung 860 EVO reviews

500GB 860 EVO SATA III 2.5" Internal SSD is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with my new 500GB Samsung 860 EVO Hello, this is my 7th SSD from the Evo series with the previous ones being 2 840s 3 850s and 1 960, and like with all the other Samsung Evos I have had price/performance is stellar, I don't have any issues on this just like I didn't have any issues with my previous SSDS which I still have in raids etc. in my desktop computer, this one is just to add extra storage. Thanks for the reliable SSDs you make. It's the only Samsung products I buy, but it is also the best products Samsung makes. The design is kinda meh, but it's hidden away so it's no big deal to me. I vastly prefer the design of the M.2s but again, form factor makes this impossible to replicate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Drive! Installed in my Toshiba L55 laptop, cloned the Toshiba 128GB SSD to the Samsung 500GB EVO 2.5" SSD using the downloadable Samsung Data Migration software, EVO installed and booted up with all the new extra space, Windows 10 shows 465GB, took about two hours for the clone, disassemble, dust cleaning, install, reassembly, and first boot. Nice, no surprises! Installed the Samsung Magician Software which handles the firmware updates and options, made my choices, and then set the Magician for manual start.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Third SSD & First Not To FAIL I've purchased a few SSD';s for desktop HDD replacements and after the first two, including their RMA's failed, I sought input from fellow PC enthusiasts and the Samsung 860-EVO was the SSD recommended by a lot of individuals! Well over a dozen people informed me that I would not be disappointed with this SSD, and after using it since early April 2018 I have to report I am extremely pleased! Thanks to anyone who suggested this SSD and furthermore, anybody looking for an SSD, don't purchase a low end less expensive this one and you won't be disappointed!! Thanks Samsung!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Getting the run around New install on new Itel NUC - thing worked half way - will not recognize on any devices at all - even tried USB - linux and 3 computers. Then I fill out the RMA for and was told to call 1-800-samsung after I fill everything out. Then the phone tells me they are closed and told to go to to get live chat. Hello!! there is none. Even NEwegg didnt want this thing back, Happy with the m.2 I bought - now - I am playing around trying to get this replaced - Hoop Jumping not Fun. Should have did a WD blue or something... Or better yet get a teamgroup one and deal with failures they might not have...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, easy transition I am not a computer nerd. I just bought this drive, used the Samsung software to clone the old HDD onto this drive and then installed this as my boot drive. Smooth flawless process and wow did it speed up my system. Love it. One of the single star reviews made comment that Samsung Magician was the only program to copy the existing drive and it doesn't recognize the drive. I made the same mistake and Samsung "help" guided me to Samsung Data Migration software which is the proper software and made the transition seamless.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not getting SSD to work yet in my notebook I purchased a 500GB Samsung and a separate SATA-USB interface, and when I plugged it into my Lenovo Yoga 2, the notebook recognizes the SATA wire but does not show an attached drive, so there is nothing to boot to get things cloning. This may be owing to the particular hardware configuration I have, so I will try this on an older laptop later this summer. The minimal instructions that come with the Samsung drive are not very illuminating, leading one to believe that the thing will boot itself up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect replacement for my old HDD! After doing days of research on the internet on the best SSD that costs less than $150, I purchased the Samsung 500GB 860 EVO. I've been using this for a couple of weeks and can safely say that I couldn't be happier with my decision. My 6 year old laptop (I have an ASUS U47A) is now as good as new! Installation was a breeze (just screwed the new drive in place of the old HDD in its caddy). I used the windows media creation tool to create a bootable USB drive and windows installation took just minutes. You can download Samsung Magician separately to monitor the health of your SSD.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Careful with AMD-powered laptops I would give this SSD 5 stars as once it's installed it works flawlessly, but there needs to be a heads-up that there is a possibility that the SSD will not play nicely with AMD-powered laptops. I bought this as a means of giving new life to my mother's Samsung NP365E5C-S02UB laptop. It came originally with: 4GB of DDR3-1333 RAM 500GB 5400rpm AMD A8-4500M with AMD Radeon 7640G APU Graphics (512MB Shared VRAM) I gradually upgraded it to 16GB DDR3-1600 RAM for improved Windows performance, but the HDD proved to be a bottleneck. I had debated going with other SSDs, but having used Samsung SSDs in both my desktop and laptop (and previous laptops) I decided to stay with the brand. I bought one, and installed it in my Mom's laptop... and was stuck in infinite BIOS loops. I had to do a LOT of research on Samsung SSDs, Samsung Laptops, and AMD chipsets to discover that the only way to make the SSD to work right is to disable secure boot once Samsung Data Transfer is done doing the transfer. The Transfer software itself was spot-on, but the architecture of the laptop is NOT permissive to storage upgrades. If you're going to put this SSD into an older AMD laptop, be wary of the possibility of BIOS issues preventing optimal performance. If you can disable secure boot long enough to get the SSD into the "good list" then you're in for a treat, as the laptop now is far more responsive than it was even when new. I'd recommend it without reservation for Intel-based computers, but I'd be very cautious with AMD rigs... especially older ones.
