Sony SS-CSE Reviews
The Sound Bouncer
I bought four of these speakers to fill out a 7.2.4 setup where ceiling speakers could not be installed. I am happy to experience the immersive sound while sitting in more than just the acoustic "sweet spot". The chance to hear sound coming from what seems to be not from the speakers is expected but also unnerving to the folk that are not accustomed to such a level of surround sound.
A World of Difference
I purchased these upfiring speakers after reading about Dolby Atmos sound. Wow! Instead of listening to 5.1 surround coming from my left, right, center front speakers and left, right rear speakers and my subwoofer, it now sounds as though I'm in a geodesic dome of speakers with sound coming from everywhere around and above me. Dialogue is clearer and music envelopes me, while the sound effects of the movies happen in a real-world environment. These Dolby-enabled speakers unleashed my tuner's Atmos capabilities. It's quite remarkable.
Are good - probably
Decided to buy a discrete system after having bad luck with a soundbar system from a four-letter (!) manufacturer. No regrets! Treated myself to a Sony STR-DH790 7.2-Channel A/V Receiver, the Sony SS-CS3 3-Way Floorstanding Speakers, a set of Sony SS-CSE Atmos speakers (this review), the Sony SA-CS9 10 115W Subwoofer, Sony SS-CS8 2-Way Center Channel Speaker, a set of Sony SS-CS5 3-Way Bookshelf Speakers for the rear... These speakers add the front Atmos channels to the system in our living room. Maybe I expected more of an Atmos enabled system - when playing videos that are encoded with those channels (and made sure the receiver is set correctly!). But I do not get that overhead feeling from them, like it has been described in numerous tests and demonstration videos. Yes, I DID take time to adjust the settings in the receiver to get the best sound image in the room. If you take your time and go through all the settings and figure out all the settings/options on the receiver, the end result OVERALL will NOT disappoint you. But the Atmos presence... well... the jury is still out on that. Maybe it is not the speakers, maybe I have unrealistic expectations. Have not watched/listened to a lot of movies yet, but my favorites so far are Das Boot and the end live-concert of Bohemian Rhapsody... The concert scene puts you in the middle of the audience - I can play that concert over and over just to be immersed in it. In Das Boot, you do get the claustrophobic feeling delivered to you. Overall, this has been a good investment.
regular speaker or Dolby Atmos. Speaker.
Sound good either way I use it. Doesn’t take up much room .
Good quality, great sounding!
Currently have these hanging as front height speakers. They were easy to hang. Still tweaking the 5.1.2 set up,but aren't we always? I will say, adding these does make a difference while watching a movie with Atmos. Using these with a Sony STR DH790. Very happy with these speakers, and as always B&H made it very easy to get these home. If your on the fence, go ahead a grab a pair of these, you'll be glad you did!
I have been using this product for about 3 months, it works as advertised
Great speakers for the money. Sound good.would recommend to friends.
