Profoto Barndoor for Zoom Reflector Overview

The 4-Leaf Barndoor and Grid Holder for Profoto Zoom Reflector mounts directly onto the Profoto Zoom Reflector. It features springs for mounting filters and/or honeycomb grids. It blocks undesired light from the subject or the camera lens and shapes the light output of the flash head when used without the grids.

Barndoors, snoots, grids, and filters are essential accessories for any lighting system. These devices alter the shape, intensity, or color of the light output from your flash heads. Consider them as a painter would a brush or a sculptor would a knife or chisel.

Use of a barndoor set will result in a shaft of light, when it is attached to the front of the reflector of your light source. The size of the shaft of light will be determined by the opening of the leaves, and the distance of the light from the subject. Rotating the barndoor set will determine the angle of the shaft of light. A 4-leaf barndoor provides more light control than a 2-leaf barndoor set.

Profoto Barndoor for Zoom Reflector Reviews

great light shaper

Good for flagging the spread from a zoom reflector and also handy to hold colored gels. Pricey, but it's from profoto so you expect that it will be expensive. If you buy top quality, you're rewarded when you go to resell it.

Flimsy, and poorly built

These barn doors quickly became bent out of shape with minimal use. They also spin of their own free will when attached to a reflector, so they have to be gaffered to stop them moving. I have some broncolor barn doors from the 80's that I use of some bron heads, and they are indestructible. Barn doors are an important light modifier, but you wouldn't know it from this Profoto product.

What size grid fit into the Grid holder for PROFOTO Zoom Reflector?
Asked by: Michael
Rather than fitting the rectangular opening of the Profoto 4-Leaf Barndoor and Grid Holder for Profoto Zoom Reflector (B&H# PRBDZR), the grids that can be used with it are those that are made for the Zoom Reflector such as the Profoto Honeycomb Grid for Zoom Reflector 2 (20°) (B&H# PRG20ZR): https://bhpho.to/3nnkoO4

question

Do i need any extra accessory to mount this on zoom reflector 2 ?
Asked by: Erick
To clarify, the barndoor does not snap "right on," but must be attached at an angle, starting in one corner. Profoto created a video to show how it must be attached: https://vimeo.com/447044813 [email protected]

question

what size of filter fit into the hold of this barndoor? 12x12? Thanks
Asked by: Éric
The barn door frame is approximately 11x8. Most use close-pins to attach gels to the barn-door leaf. By doing that you should use ones that are at least 12x12 depending on how far out you position the barn-door leafs. Best is to get larger sheets and cut them larger than 12 on the long edge.
