Godox AD400Pro Reviews

Excellent (with caveat)

This is the 2nd Bundle of Joy ordered- My 3rd AD400 Pro- And the battery goblin arrived. Here's the thing: Charging the battery? Nothing but a countdown of LED's. The kit arrived on Friday, Monday is Labor Day, so what the heck? I left it on the charger. 24 hours, no Joy. Day 3? I woke up to a fully charged battery. To the kit? This is my 3rd AD400 Pro for a reason. It's an incredible value!

Misfiring

By Justin

I am trying really hard to love this flash! I may have a faulty one. I have it paired with an AD300PRO as my hair light or a backlight, and I am having issues with it not firing often. I did a shoot today where it misfired between 15 to 20 shots and the AD300PRO hit each time with no issues. The AD400PRO was set to 1/16 power and the AD300PRO was set to 1/8th power. Times between shots were between 2 to 3 seconds. I don't run the modeling light and I don't shoot consecutively. So I never run into overheating problems even when I was using strictly AD200PROS. I could really use some assistance with this because I need a reliable strobe for on location shoots.

I never had a flash lime this aside from speedlite. Very powerful and fast to reload for another round. My first professional off camera flash.

Great build quality fast recycle

Exceptional value and quality. The wireless works great and the recycle time is essentially zero for 1/4 power or less. I use it for my Hasselblad X2D with the Nikon version of the wireless trigger.

Continued battery problems out of the box

Don't do it... just don't. Going on the third unit trying to find one that will charge out of the box. I keep having to return brand-new products so they can send another dysfunctional one. Very inconvenient and apparently a complete lack of quality control by Godox.

Battery with my new Godox AD400 Pro--DEAD ON ARRIVAL.

By Bernard
Rated 2 out of 5
Date: 2023-08-19

Battery included with my new Godox AD400 arrived DEAD ON ARRIVAL. I immediately did a search of reviews on this battery on various sources, including B&H; a competitor; and YouTube. I found various comments stating that this battery is unreliable or arrives DOA. The only known solution that may be of help (if the battery did not arrive DOA) is to try to remember to recharge the battery within 3 months from the last charge. (The manual is confusing to me as to whether the charge amount should be 60% or full. Sometimes people are going to forget to recharge every 3 months? Keeping in mind the aforementioned comments, the obvious question is whether you buy this strobe. A "no" answer would be if you value reliability but are too cheap to buy multiple backup batteries and carry lots of backup batteries to a shoot. A "yes" answer would be if are happy buying multiple expensive replacement batteries to have on hand. And f your flash jobs just don't require reliability-such as when you are not getting paid. CONCLUSION; My 2 star rating reflects that the battery issue is a big deal to me, and the fact that I have had a good experience so far with the batteries in my other Godox flashes (several of the AD200; several of the V1; etc.). Note that there are other more expensive flash brands that seem to have a strong reputation for their reliability. B&H was relatively easy to deal with on solving the above DOA battery issue. Still, this issue was very time-consuming and frustrating.

Will the AD400Pro fire with a Phottix Laso ...

Will the AD400Pro fire with a Phottix Laso Trigger while also firing a Canon 600EX2-RT?
Asked by: frank
You would need a transmitter on your camera's hot shoe, such as either the Phottix Laso TTL Flash Trigger Transmitter for Canon, B&H # PH89092, the Canon ST-E3-RT Speedlite Transmitter, or a Canon Speedlite Flash with Canon's radio wireless transmitter built into the flash unit, to work as a transmitter on the camera. If one of these are on the camera's hot shoe working as a transmitter, then you may connect the Phottix Laso TTL Flash Trigger Receiver for Canon, B&H # PH89091, to the 1/8" (3.5mm) sync terminal on the Godox AD400Pro Witstro All-In-One Outdoor Flash using a sync cable (such as the Impact Sync Cord Male Mini to Male Mini (16"), B&H # IMMMMM16). This would allow you to trigger the Godox AD400Pro Witstro All-In-One Outdoor Flash and the Canon 600EX II-RT Speedlite Flash simultaneously with your setup.

I recently had an issue where the light changed the power setting to Full Power while shooting. The battery level was low on the transmitter but not sure that was the problem. Has anyone had this ever happen?
Asked by: Raymond
Yes, when I am in TTL and HSS. It doesn't happen when the strobe is on manual mode.
