Outstanding Lens – Worth Every Penny
After adding the Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM to my Canon EOS R5 Mark II, I immediately understood why this lens has such a strong reputation. The image quality is exceptional. Sharpness is outstanding even wide open at f/1.2, with incredible detail, beautiful color rendition, and excellent contrast. The background blur is stunning and creates a three-dimensional look that makes subjects stand out in a way few lenses can match. Eye autofocus on the R5 Mark II is extremely accurate, making it easy to capture sharp portraits even at very shallow depth of field. Build quality is exactly what I expect from Canon’s L-series lenses—solid, professional, and confidence-inspiring. While it is larger and heavier than some alternatives, the image quality more than justifies the size. Whether shooting indoors or outdoors, the results consistently have a look that requires very little effort in post-processing. If you’re looking for one of the finest portrait lenses Canon has ever produced, the RF 85mm f/1.2L USM is an easy recommendation.

I've previously owned an 85mm 1.2/L EF lens, which was a notoriously slow focuser... no such problems here and this seems absolutely great, and it's nice to have wide apertures in a more generally useful focal length.
