By replacing the original factory foot, the AP-611 adds rigidness and stability and reduces flex and vibration while mounted to a head. Additionally, a double dovetail allows accessories to attach to the bottom or the top of the foot. The lower profile of the plate provides better balance when mounted on a head as well. If you're going to use the optional safety stop screws, Wimberley recommends using a clamp with channels that allow the screws on the foot to slide back and forth.

Poor tolerances, loose fit on Sony FE 70-200 f/2.8 GM OSS

I like the design of this and wanted it to work, but the tolerances on the cutout where it mounts to the lens is very loose. The lens has a dovetail type attachment, but this foot just has a cutout roughly the shape of the lens mount. After mounting and tightening the included Allen screw as much as I was comfortable with, there was considerable wobble between the lens mount and this foot. This allows for more than 1/8th inch of wobble up/down and left/right at the front of the lens. It just doesn't feel sturdy when mounted to a monopod or tripod, and I would be concerned about the long term wear on the lens mount. This replacement foot is also ridiculously and unnecessarily heavy.

Will this foot also fit the Sony 100-400 ...

Will this foot also fit the Sony 100-400 f/4.5-5.6? I know Wimberley has a different model specifically for that lens, but it looks the same, AND, the Really Right Stuff foot is advertised to fit both lenses.

Yes this foot would also work. The 70-200 GM and the 100-400 GM share the same foot.

The new 70-200 II GM has the same tripod foot design as the previous one so it should work.

No, the Wimberley AP-611 Quick Release Replacement Foot for Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS, B&H # WIRLFS70200, is not compatible for use with the Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS Lens. Instead, the Wimberley AP-616 Replacement Foot for Sony FE 600 f/4 GM OSS, B&H # WIAP616, would be the correct Wimberley replacement foot designed for use with the Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS Lens.
