Is this a good backup pro camera for portraiture? ...

Is this a good backup pro camera for portraiture? I have a 70D that I love, but need a backup camera. I like that this is lightweight and less expensive, but don't want it to be a major step down from what I'm used to. TIA!

My wife uses it, and she is very happy with it. You may note a few things lacking, such as focus points (it has only 9), but to compensate the dual-pixel focusing is very good. It is is a very good camera, and she has taken very good photos with it.

what is the difference with the Canon M50 mark ii?
Asked by: Jose
The differences between the SL3 and the M50 Mark II are feature-based. Aside from it being a mirrorless camera, the M50 II would have a higher continuous shooting rate, a greater number of autofocus points and Eye AF over the SL3.

Can you use a Sigma 28-300mm lens on this body?

Can you use a Sigma 28-300mm lens on this body?
Asked by: Leif
My wife uses a Tamron 16-300mm on the SL3, and it's OK. A little bit of a problem focusing at the end of the range (250-300mm), but nothing serious. But your best bet is to go to Sigma's website and see if there are any issues or if you need to update the firmware on the lens, which sometimes happens. As far as I know Sigma does the compatibility updates for free.

where is the Rebel SL3 made?

where is the Rebel SL3 made?
Asked by: Chad
I don't know, but the EOS Rebel SL3's very similar predecessor, the EOS Rebel SL2, was made in Taiwan, and so it seems likely that the SL3 is made there too. Actually, however, I'd suggest forgetting about where the camera is made; what's important is who is ensuring that it's made well, and experience with Canon leads to the belief that wherever the SL3 is made, it will be made well. One benefit of globalization is that goods can be made all round the world, depending on what place is economically advantageous, and then the economic benefits can be passed on to consumers. For example, the SL3's battery is made in China, while the battery charger comes from the Philippines and the camera (probably) from Taiwan. It all goes together, and it works. If you like it, just buy it, and forget about silly countries. The key is not China or the Philippines or Taiwan, but Canon!
