The Blackmagic Design SmartView 4K 2 is a professional 15.6" TFT LCD monitor with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 and two multi-rate 12G-SDI inputs. The inputs automatically switch between SD, HD, and 4K formats, including up to DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) at 60 fps. An SMPTE-compatible optical fiber socket enables you to add a separate module for SDI fiber input.
When monitoring SD, 720p, or 1080p SDI sources, the built-in Teranex processor uses Blackmagic's PixelMotion algorithms to automatically deinterlace and scale video up to UHD 4K. This gives users optimum image quality, even when working with lower-resolution images.
Built-In Control Buttons and Customizable Frame Markers
The SmartView 4K 2's machined metal frame provides built-in control buttons for access to advanced broadcast features including 3D LUTs, H/V delay, blue channel only, and customizable frame markers. The chassis is rack-mountable (6 RU) and also has VESA mounting holes for installation on articulating arms.
Local and Remote Control
In addition to the front panel buttons, the monitor can be controlled remotely via the rear Ethernet connection using the downloadable Mac or Windows software, ideal for hard-to-reach setups. With both AC power as well as 12 VDC power inputs, the SmartView 4K is well suited for use in the studio or on the set.
DCI 4K Resolution
The 15.6" active matrix TFT LCD screen provides bright viewing with wide viewing angles. Its native 3840 x 2160 resolution displays every pixel from footage with a resolution up to DCI 4K60. It also provides high-quality upscaling of SD and HD footage to UHD 4K, letting the SmartView 4K fit into existing and future workflows.
The backlit front-panel buttons are great for use in dimly lit studios or locations, letting you set input selection, brightness, selection of 3D LUTs, and other advanced features such as H/V delay, blue channel only, and frame guides. The settings can also be adjusted remotely via a Mac or PC connected over Ethernet using the included software.
3D LUT Support
Dual 3D LUT support lets you customize color for on-set grading and monitoring. Combined with the 12G-SDI input, the SmartView 4K can display DCI 4K60 footage from high-end cameras such as the Blackmagic URSA, letting you view native LOG gamma color spaces with Rec. 709 or custom color spaces using the 3D LUTs.
Connections
The SmartView 4K features two multi-rate 12G-SDI inputs, letting you select between two different sources with the push of a button. The connections automatically detect and reclock between single-link SD, HD, and 3G/6G/12G-SDI formats, supporting resolutions from SD to DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) at 60 fps. A 12G-SDI loop-through output is provided for sending your input signal to an additional device. There is also an SMPTE-compatible optical fiber socket for adding a module to connect via an optical fiber cable, as well as an Ethernet port with loop-through, AC and DC power inputs, a tally input connector, and a USB port for updates.
Additional Features
  • Built-in Teranex processor automatically deinterlaces and scales SD and HD video up to UHD resolution for improved quality on lower-resolution video inputs
  • Machined metal chassis
  • 19" rack-mountable; 6 RU
  • Both AC and DC power input options
SMPTE Compliance
  • SMPTE 259M, SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 296M
  • SMPTE 372M, SMPTE 424M Level A and B

We bought this product last year, it worked great for a few months. After that, the images jump every now and then. sometimes the image is so blurry and you cant make up what is it displaying. I cant show a picture but have videos of how bad the image displays. In theory the monitor should work great but in reality it failed for us

Lacking in required features

Sadly there is no headphone jack, or speakers, (or even audio meters) on this monitor, which means you will need an additional device to verify audio. It has 2 sdi inputs and it is 4k, but there is no side-to-side feature like other professional monitors. I have one in my rack, and it is well-constructed, and it serves its purpose. But it could be so much more.
