Sonos Move Reviews

Great Sound, Easy To Set Up, Great Looking, BUT .....

Needing a somewhat portable, high quality speaker and after reading many reviews and owning several Sonos products that I am happy with I took the plunge and bought one. I was not disappointed. The sound quality is great, setup is ridiculously easy and it looks really good. However, after a couple of weeks it just died. No status lights, would not charge with the power base or a USB charger, nothing. Of course could not see it through the app which told me the Move was off-line and asked me to click for support. Going through the voice call tree was a little frustrating so I called the Sonos support line. Spoke with a lady who was just great. She asked me all kinds of questions and we determined that it was simply dead - no autopsy findings so I can't share exactly what went wrong. She told me that since the purchase was still within the window for returns at B+H I should work through them. I did and B+H, as usual, was great. I have received my replacement Sonos Move and it is fully charged and I'm enjoying the music once again. Just in case, I am keeping the box and all the box internal packing items. Again, just in case. I'm thinking that my experience was a one-off because I'm not reading of any others with the same death problem. I still recommend the product and the company. The only other down side and this was timing only - I noticed that my replacement Sonos Move was less expensive - there is a sale that started after my purchase and at the time of my problem. Oh, well.

Big sound in a small profile

This speaker can fill an outdoor an 900 square feet terrace with music easily. The most amazing thing is that if you put it at the center of a room the sound is spread fairly similar in all directions, even in the back of the speaker it sounds good.

Great addition to a SONOS home. This is added to two play 1 speakers and works seamlessly. Nice easy setup. Also works as a Bluetooth speaker. Nice sound and sleek look.

Hardware okay, software and installation: HORRIBLE

After a lengthy delay, B&H delivered the product exactly when they said they would the day I ordered it. Impressive. And so I flipped open the four-page glossy quick start that basically told me to use the Sonos app to get it going. They didn't say it, but they meant the Sonos2 app. (...foreshadowing...) Hoo, boy. What an absolute disaster. The app installation instructions are spaghetti code - I kept arriving at the same terrible situation (Your Move not found. Let's fix it!!) from different directions. I wanted to throw my phone through a window, and drive over the damned speaker with my truck. I'm reasonably smart: I did well in school, I can program computers, I do complex mathematics. But this experience was by far the worst consumer product set-up I have ever had (worse than Ikea!!). After I did my deep-breathing exercises and drank a few stiff drinks, I abandoned it for the night. In the morning I called customer service, and they took me down a series of steps that were nothing at all what the app took me down, and we were done in 20 minutes. Only 20! As a note, I was very upset to find that Sonos2 is required to run this thing. Why? One hint: GM in the sixties. And I have $$$ invested in Sonos1 equipment elsewhere. But for me it's okay: I can run Sonos2 for the Move here, and Sonos1 at the other place. Or at least that's what the guy promised. We shall see. If you need Sonos1 equipment and a Move to run on the same network, I fear you may be in for bad news.

Very Nice Speaker!

This (somewhat pricey) speaker sounds really good. We really like its portability and strong WiFi capabilities, functioning flawlessly in outside locations where the signal is not the best. We have other Sonos components and this fits into the sound environment quite well. I'm not overly pleased with the Sonos app for Mac but the IOS app is great and we manage all components through that app. The sound is really great and maybe that is what I should have focused on first. It delivers an excellent range of bass, midrange and treble in all locations - even outside. Easy to carry from place to place so we enjoy it in numerous locations. I really like the power base that the Move sits on and charges. I wish Sonos had made one or the other component parts of the power base pluggable/unpluggable so I could drop the cord down a drilled hole in our office desktop as neither component is small enough to do so. Still, they did provide a USB connection for power so I can plug it in at the desktop location that way. Once again, a little pricey but definitely worth it if you are already invested in the Sonos system.

No not necessarily, as others have said you might want to consider a Play5 if you do not need the portability. It is the best of their speaker line up.

How long does the battery last and is it replaceable?
Asked by: Tom
The battery is replaceable, After about 3 years of use. The cost of a new battery is rumored to be around $80 dollars. Take out the 2 screws on the bottom under the rubber protection piece, slide the old battery out, and insert the new one.
