Panasonic HC-X2000 Reviews

What are you looking for in a camera?

By Rolland

First, I like like shooting wildlife ( birds mostly ) and occasionally doing a pro video ( making money ) so my needs may not be your needs. I read reviews from others who love or hate the camera. Figure out what you need first, also what you can afford then go shopping. I researched many cameras before deciding on this one. Pros, small light weight, incredible zoom, plenty of high bitrate choices, 4K 60fps, reasonable picture quality in reasonable light for what I would consider a reasonable price. Cons - can't get it to shoot Mp4 format 100 megabits even with a 300 MB/s SDXC card, shoots MOV at 200 megabits no problem but no Mp4? Of course not good in low light. Did I mention the manuals have much to be desired? Took me forever to figure out how to turn the focus peaking on. That being said I won't send camera back because it doesn't like to shoot Mp4's at high bitrate of 100 megabits, the highest bitrates are MOV anyways. But I recommend this camera for people who are looking for great picture quality, great zoom , lots of pro settings for when the need arises. Again, it is not disappointing me.

Bad in low light, great at everything else

This camera is a near perfect camcorder. Best one I have every used, if they could only improve the low light performance on future models, then this would be perfect. I used it to document a 5 day backpacking trip. Battery life is incredible, and the ergonomics are great. Footage (except for anything low light) turned out amazing!

Marquee Feature Doesn't Work :-(

The standout feature of this camcorder is the ability to livestream directly to YouTube and Facebook without having to connect it with a cable to a computer. I was so excited to order this with all the live-streaming events that were coming my way due to Covid. I tested it out using my phone as a hotspot and it worked perfectly. It worked at home and in the field. Unfortunately I only tested it for a few minutes at a time. Turns out it kept dropping the connection to YouTube after a few minutes and I didn't discover that until it was too late to return it. I tried it at home with my wifi network and it worked fine for over an hour, but not with my phone as a hotspot. The sensor is so small the image isn't anything great but if that main live-streaming feature worked it would have been totally worth it! So I now use it connected to my laptop with HDMI.

Disappointed

During all the years that I been as a videographer, I have always been a panasonic user. All the cameras I owned have been from this brand and I was completely satisfied until I bought the HC-x2000. The performance of this camera in low light is worse than my cell phone. It's not about settings, I been working with cameras for many years. The tiny sensor of this camera doesnt give too much. If you work at a professional level and you plan to record indoors or in any other place with low lighting, this camera is not for you. Not only is it bad at low light, but it also loses sharpness a lot. If you work in exterior or during the day it's acceptable after making some adjustments. Unfortunately the factory presets are useless too. At the end, I returned this camera and exchanged it for the Panasonic AG-CX350 In my opinion this camera is only for beginners.

It was a wise purchase

This versatile camera is in use by several volunteers in a retirement community who range from beginner to skilled. It works for all of us. The professional audio controls are easy to learn and deliver great results. Wired exporting to computer for edit is easy. Video images in automatic give great results, our main problem is the learning curve to use wireless output.

Good Camcorder even at Low Light

This is a good camcorder, even shot at low light. I usually use camcorder to shot performance or show at room with regular light or studio. It performs good. The video shot looks clear and sharp. The color of objects looks full and of reality. Though the manual reads too long, it is clear. In general, I like it and satisfied with its performance. I'd like tp give it 5 stars.

Great camera for the price

While I was expecting more I was very happy with what I got for quality not to mention great optical zoom. The only down fall is the size of the camera and the amount of button.

Thank you for reaching out. As stated on page 37 of the Operating Manual, the unit will not turn off unless the LCD monitor is closed and the viewfinder is retracted. Keep those open and the camera stays on.

The HC-X1000 would allow copying directly from the SD cards in the camera to an external hard drive via a USB connection. Apparently you can't do this with this camera.

I bought this camera about 6 months ago and love it. I use it for depositions, it may be overkill, but is there a way to move, size or change the opacity of the big black box with the time stamp in it? It is more often in the way of the of the witness. It is also a little left of center. Thank you.

The size of the characters and the display position of the time stamp varies depending on the recording format. The position to display the time stamp can not be changed.

I have discovered that cards larger than 128 GB do in fact work. I have tested cards up to 1 TB. The time remaining estimate cannot display anything over 999 minutes, but other than that there are no functional problems whatsoever.
