I really wish that Synology had these as standard in the 1821+, they only put in 4GB to start. I just have one installed, at some point if it becomes necessary I can always pick up another. Very easy install!

Why are these so expensive given a 16GB ECC SO-DIMM module can be bought for half as much or less?

Because they can grossly inflate the prices by claiming only their own brand is compatible and warranted. So long as you get electronically-compatible modules, it will work (though with a warning in DSM). It's like if General Motors said you could only install their own stereo equipment to have the engine warranty valid.

Can I install more memory for Synology DS920+ or am I limited to stick to just this 4GB capacity?

The Synology DS920+ is limited to 8GB of RAM; 4GB are onboard. To upgrade to 8GB, you can install up to one of the Synology 4GB DDR4 2666 MHz Non-ECC SO-DIMM Memory Module, B&H # SYD4SO26664G.

The Synology 4GB DDR4 2666 MHz Non-ECC SO-DIMM Memory Module, B&H # SYD4SO26664G, is not compatible with the Synology DS218+; the correct memory for the DS218+ is the Synology 4GB DDR3L 1866 MHz SO-DIMM Memory Module, B&H # SYD3NS1866L4, but it is no longer available.
