The Dahle 554 28-1/4" Professional Rolling Trimmer is a large format trimmer seen in engineering departments, framing shops, galleries and schools around the world. It quickly and effortlessly cuts large workpieces to precise size. Its features include ground upper and lower steel blades along with an automatic paper clamp. The rugged base helps maintain its stability while the clearly marked surface grid gives you precise registration points.

As with all Dahle Rotary Trimmers, safety is ensured by totally enclosing the blade in a plastic housing. For larger pieces (or even for small ones), this trimmer can be wall mounted for even more exact cuts.

554 Professional Rolling Trimmer (28-1/4") is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 51.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy use cutter I have used this cutter for more 8 years now. I run between 100-200 feet of 24 Luster paper/month. All of it is cut in either 7 or 10 inch strips. The cutter has never been adjusted and will still trim hair-thickness strips which come off in tight curls. I lost count of how many hours this cutter has saved over using a straight edge and razor. The 28-1/4 length allows you to see the cutting edge for proper alignment on 24 paper. I have never used a Rototrim cutter, but cannot imagine how a cutter can get any better than this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid and hopefully reliable I have only been using this trimmer for about one week, so I can't comment on its reliability. The feel is what I had expected. Solid and cutting is very easy. My only reservation is that the instructions provided are almost laughable- simple line drawings. I am not clear what they are supposed to show beyond that you shouldn't stick your fingers in the blade (hard to do unless you really want to open a vein) and that the device should be used for cutting things. I would have appreciated some info on how to use the holder and when and how to replace the cutter assembly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice intermediate trimmer Nicely built intermediate quality trimmer, a definite step up from Dahle's cheapest line (they make 3 lines). Smooth cutting action, less of a burr on edges than using a straight edge and matte knife. Will cuts 4 ply matboard, but it feels like its pushing the limits, doesn't feel like it would be a good thing to do a lot of. The cutter was set up well I didn't need to tweak the angle of the guide to get a good 90 degrees to the cutter. The one thing I don't like is that the transparent overlay strip by the cutter floats some, so you can't use it as a guide to make precise narrow parallel cuts to a line. But all in all very pleased for the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dahle 554 28-1/4 trimmer Bought this for trimming Photos. I do my own matting and framing. Solid and well built. Disappointed that the grid lines are metric. They have a vertical English ruler on one side. Horizontal is only metric. They should offer a English and metric version. I'll need to produce a conversion table. They also have A sizes marking but not common English sizes 4x6, 8x10 etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great tool for every photographer I've owned a Dahle print trimmer before, so I was ware of their quality. Thats why I insisted on another Dahle when I needed a larger size. The 28 is perfect for the prints I make at home. Can't recommend them enough. Precise German engineering.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from CM - vs Inches Would be a five star if all measurements were in inches as well. Inches and CM along the sides but only CM along the top. Other than that it works great. Able to trim off 1/64th of an inch or less. Worth the money

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Shipped assembled for safe shipping, not for use When I unpacked the device, the cutter head was installed in a position where it could not possibly cut anything. That may be comforting for the shipper, but it meant I had to partially disassemble the trimmer to put the cutting head in the proper place. The instruction manual was no help beyond the warning that the blade is very sharp. Now that the blade is in the proper place, the trimmer is effective within its limitations (square cuts, material < 2mm thick).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cuts like the cutters at Kinko's =D Which is a good thing! I love those but looking them up online, they cost around $600. This cutter is nearly as good for $ and I love the clean smooth cuts it gives. I'm even able to shave the very edge of a print. My only gripe, which isn't enough for me to knock it down, is most of the measurements are metric and not Imperial. I know the US is backwards in most everything, but I'm cutting US sizes so it would help. However, there are inch markers to 13 horizontally which is rather useful. Also, it can cut matboard, but the sound it makes when doing so isn't comforting and I didn't want to ruin the blade so I kept to my mat cutter for that.If you need clean, accurate cuts. This is your trimmer.
