Celestron CPC Deluxe 800 HD 8" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope

The Celestron CPC Deluxe 800 HD 8" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope is outfitted with an aperture that balances power and portability, offering you an OTA that can resolve dim deep-sky objects and be handled by one person. It features the proprietary aplanatic catadioptric-style Edge HD optical system and the StarBright XLT optical coating system that improves light transmission and reflectivity across the entire visual spectrum. The combination of EdgeHD and StarBright XLT produces bright and clear high-resolution images with true color rendition across the entire field of view without distortion, aberrations, or off-axis comas. The dual-fork-arm alt-az motorized mount features the simple SkyAlign setup and a NexStar controller with a database of more than 40,000 celestial objects.

Optics
  • 8" (203.2mm) f/10 aperture strikes a balance between power and portability
  • 2032mm effective focal length
  • EdgeHD catadioptric optical system employs an aplanatic field-flattener design that eliminates spherical aberration, field curvature, and off-axis star coma to improve resolution, sharpness, and clarity across the entire field of view–especially at the edges
  • Fine-annealed Pyrex glass reduces internal light loss to improve color, clarity, and sharpness
  • StarBright XLT optical coatings
  • Flexible tension clutches hold the primary mirror in place to reduce image shift without putting any force or pressure on the mirror assembly, keeping subjects centered
  • Internal mirror locks prevent accidental adjustment to focus, which is important during long-exposure astrophotography
  • Internal focusing mechanism moves the primary mirror forward and back to achieve tack-sharp views
  • Resolution: 0.69 arcsec (Rayleigh); 0.579 arcsec (Dawes)
  • Secondary mirror obstruction: 2.5" (64mm); 31% by diameter; 9.77% by area
  • Fastar compatibility allows you to remove the secondary mirror and replace it with an imaging system to greatly reduce the focal ratio for shorter exposure times and a wider field of view
StarBright XLT System
  • Maximizes light transmission through optical path
  • Improves color rendition, contrast, sharpness, resolution, and brightness
  • Broadband system provides flat wavelength transmission across the entire visual spectrum
  • Multilayer mirror coatings with layers of aluminum, SiO2 (quartz), and TiO2 (titanium dioxide)
  • Multilayer anti-reflective corrector plate coatings with layers of MgF2 (magnesium fluoride) and HfO2 (hafnium dioxide); hafnium has a wider band-pass than the commonly used titanium
  • High-transmission water white glass corrector plate limits light loss due to internal absorption
Mount
  • Dual-fork alt-az
  • NexStar+ database: more than 40,000 objects, 100 user defined programmable objects, enhanced information on over 200 objects
  • DC servo motors
  • 2 AUX Ports (Hand controller can use any of the AUX ports)
  • 12V 1.5A power supply
Included Accessories
Eyepiece:
  • 1.25" barrel diameter
  • Accepts most 1.25" astronomical filters
  • 40mm focal length produces 51x power
Diagonal:
  • 90° angle places head in comfortable viewing position
  • 1.25" holder accepts the most common sized eyepieces and accessories
  • Star configuration corrects view horizontally, but not vertically
Finderscope:
  • Low 9x magnification ensures a wide field of view for easier alignment
  • 50mm objective allows users to see dimmer objects for more alignment star choices
  • Includes quick release bracket

Celestron CPC Deluxe 800 HD Reviews

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR....

Several weeks ago I received this scope and just recently, after the weather cleared in Florida, I took this puppy out for a spin. Let me tell you, for a mid-level - professional telescope, I was/am amazed with just how sturdy the dual arm mount is. It is a rock solid mount that lets you focus at high magnification with hardly any image movement. I had bought and then returned the NextStar 8SE model and was very frustrated in trying to adjust good focus on Jupiter and Saturn. The single arm mount is not sufficient to provide the stability required for focusing at any magnification level. I did not know how sturdy this scope would be and had also bought the Celestron Electric Focus Motor, not knowing if it would be needed. In using this scope, focusing was very precise and stable. I also returned the Electric Focus motor as I prefer to finger-focus for the best view. The attached pictures will speak for themselves as typical of what you may obtain with a mid-level setup. After a three star alignment, I selected Jupiter as the target and with the higher magnification realized using the ASI224MC camera, I had to slightly re-center the view. Tracking was solid and with my first alignment of this scope, Jupiter stayed relatively centered when tracked and performed well as my alignment skills need to be improved. I used an ASI224MC camera, SharpCap 4.0 video capture software with an ASUS X53e notebook, PIPP x64 V 2.5.9 - image editor, Autostakkert x64 V 3.1.4, and Registax V 6.0 to process the images. ALL FREE.... I am still in the learning curve with program features and adjustments and as the results for my first night out with this scope show, I received excellent - not Webb telescope - results, but for a driveway setup, I am thrilled with the results. (The streetlight needs to go, but, it is illegal to shoot it out ;-).... If you have any ideas about getting into Astro-photography, you will be frustrated with any lesser scope. The EQ type mounts are preferred for long-term exposures as captured images will not display any image rotation. For shorter, planetary image captures with this dual arm mount, any image shifting is corrected with the stacking software. The pictures were taken with a good seeing condition and I hope to take even better quality shots after the first good cold front really clears out the sky. Overall a great scope at a good price.... Buy one now and let the grand-kids inherit it later....

will the Celestron SkySync GPS Accessory (93969) ...

will the Celestron SkySync GPS Accessory (93969) work with this?
Asked by: Kenneth
If a pre-2012 CPC encountered the GPS rollover issue, adding a SkySync GPS Accessory and switching the telescope's internal GPS source to the SkySync GPS is a good option. If a CPC's internal GPS is still working normally, there is no reason to add the SkySync GPS Accessory.

Is there a case for this? I have done the measurements and this will not fit inside "BH #PEIM2720B". Not unless the OTA comes off the mount. Does the OTA come off the mount?
Asked by: Kenneth
No, the Celestron CPC Deluxe 800 HD 8" f/10 Cassegrain Optical Tube Assembly is not meant to come off the mount. It needs to be stored attached to the mount. To store the OTA with mount one can use the Pelican 1690 Transport Case with Foam (Black), BH #PE1690FB (https://bhpho.to/3uB9Nl1).

can the Celestron AutoGuider work and auto guide ...

can the Celestron AutoGuider work and auto guide objects with this mount & tripod? a video said this is possible can you confirm
Asked by: Marco
An autoguider is capable of controlling an alt-az mounted telescope like the CPC, however, the photographic results will suffer from an effect called field rotation. An alt-az mount tracks an object by moving in a series of up/down, left/right movements while the celestial target is moving in a circle around the pole. The telescope will track and keep the target in the middle of the field, but the field rotation effect makes the target slowly rotate around the center of the field of view, streaking the stars on around the center. Thus, for long exposure photography, an equatorial mount is needed, or the CPC mount needs to go on a wedge to allow the azimuth axis to operate like the polar axis on an equatorial mount.
