Yamaha MS101-4 Reviews

Perfect little monitor for presenter IFB and Zoom feedback loops

Not a main PA speaker — don't buy it for that. But for what I needed it to do, it's exactly right. I run corporate livestreams and needed a dedicated monitor so my on-site presenter could hear the Zoom call and have a real back-and-forth conversation with remote attendees/remote presenters. This thing solved it cleanly. Plugged straight in via XLR, set the level, done. No fuss. The XLR input is what makes it practical for production work. A lot of compact powered monitors at this price point are RCA or 1/8" only, which creates adapter headaches on a live event. This just drops into a normal signal chain. It's also genuinely compact — I throw it in my kit bag and it travels without drama. For the price, the build quality is solid and the volume is more than enough for a single presenter monitoring a mix. Again — not an audience speaker, not a wedge replacement. But as a confidence monitor or IFB-style solution for a presenter on a hybrid event? Hard to beat at this price.

Great Sounding Speaker!

This speaker sounds great and is very loud. Nice size, but the high and low adjustments does not separate enough, you can hardly tell the difference. Wish it had mid range as well for voice , because it did not help me in my situation .

Is there a way to adjust the microphone gain from the speaker?
Asked by: Elazar
While there is not a multi-stage gain control, the Yamaha MS101-4 Powered Monitor Speaker 30W Class-D's single Volume pot on its front panel will affect the level of a connected microphone signal.

If i hook up a pair of these to my tv will the tv remote control the volume or do i have to use the volume control on the speaker itself?
Asked by: Ron
Whether the volume of the Yamaha MS101-4 Powered Monitor Speaker 30W Class-D could be affected by the connected TV audio output source would depend on the functionality of the specific TV connected. Presumably the output on the TV is fixed and control over the MS101-4 would be adjusted via the onboard volume pots.

Can a 2nd speaker be connected for stereo?
Asked by: david
Not directly, no. You can add a second MS101-4 Powered Monitor to allow for a stereo setup, but the second monitor can't receive the corresponding signal via the first MS101-4. If you are sending the left channel to the first one, you can only send the same channel to a second speaker via the line-out XLR port. You will still need to wire the second speaker to the main device you are using to send a stereo signal to the speakers.
