The ball head can be removed, but Master Mount L is designed around it and likely won't suit a background paper support setup without it. For that use case, a dedicated background stand would be a better fit.

Is the Elgato Master Mount L compatible with monolights?
Master Mount L uses a 1/4" thread and supports 2 kg / 4.5 lbs. If it doesn't have a 1/4" or exceeds the weight limit, they will not work with your monolights.
