As a low-techie kind of person, I checked in with Customer Support at B & H after I received my hard drive in the mail. The support team member who answered my call, gave me step by step support for its use and information about various ways to use the hard drive to back up Documents, Photos and a book manuscript. This Toshiba 2TB Canvio Flex USB 3.2 Gen 1 Portable Hard Drive comes pre-formatted in exFAT, allowing compatibility for mac and all other operating systems. For users who will use this drive exclusively on macOS, I would recommend re-formatting to APFS. APFS format is also required if you will use the drive for Time Machine backup.
