AKG PCC-160 Overview

The PCC160 Microphone from Crown Audio is a rugged phase coherent, surface mountable boundary microphone designed for accurate pickup and signal reproduction on stages, lecterns, news desks, conference tables and more. The microphone features a phase coherent, half-supercardioid pickup that minimizes pickup behind the capsule, resulting in high gain-before-feedback.

The PCC160's surface mounting increases directivity by 3 dB, and its increased sensitivity provides accurate signal reproduction at long range. A frequency response of 50 Hz to 18 kHz provides accurate signal reproduction, with minimal low-frequency noise and rumble. A "Bass Tilt" switch further reduces low-frequency noise. The PCC-160 microphone features a rugged steel body, able to withstand accidental abuse. The PCC160 requires 12-48V phantom power and includes a 15' cable with switchcraft TA3-female and XLR-male connections.

Industry Standard Stage Microphone
The PCC160's performance, range, and reliability make it a favorite for theatrical and performance capturing. Its increased sensitivity provides accurate signal reproduction, with frequency response tailored to give minimal low-frequency noise and rumble. A "Bass Tilt" switch further reduces low-frequency noise.
Half-Supercardioid Polar Pattern
The half-supercardioid polar pattern effectively eliminates signal at off-axis positions, such as orchestra pits.
Phase Coherent Pick Up
Boundary mounted miniature capsule provides accurate, phase coherent signal reproduction.
Low Profile, Rugged Design
The surface mountable, rugged steel construction is designed to withstand accidental abuse.

AKG PCC-160 Reviews

old standby never really gets old

The Crown/AKG PCC160 is a reliable boundary mike for theatre - solidly built (I know - I've stepped on these more than once), good pickup and sound, good rejection of unwanted sound. Flexible mounting - on the floor, but also works well on wall, ceiling, set piece, whatever has enough flat surface to conduct sound to the capsule.

Surprisingly Good

I've been using these for stage work(about 20yrs) while recording opera. First as offered by Crown, and now AKG. Three across the stage pretty much covers all the singers and chorus saving me from having to strap wirelesses onto all principals, and secondary performers. After all opera singers are trained to project far into a hall. Certainly their voices will reach a mic only a few feet away, at the stage lip.

question

Will this work on a carpeted stage or floor?
Asked by: Dale
This is designed for hard surfaces. Mounting to a carpeted surface will affect the performance of this mic severely.

question

What is the effective range for this microphone? I.e. on a stage 15 feet deep and 40 feet wide, how many of these would we need (sic how few could I get away with )?
Asked by: Richard H.
Our stage is 28 feet deep by 40 feet wide. We use 3 floors mics.
