HyperX Cloud III Reviews

Great headphones, iffy cable

Headphones sound great and fit my ears perfectly. I’m also quite happy with the ability to detach the microphone, as I already have my own standing mic. Only problems i had with the product were the headband being slightly too short and fitting pretty snugly on my head, which leaves a bit of an indent in my hair compared to my old headphones (which were also by hyperx). The other problem was the threaded design on the cable. It came packaged with bends to keep it folded in its box during shipping, but when unpacking and setting it up, one of those bends had the cable poking out of the threading at a harsh angle and I was unable to get it back in and had to cut the threads at that spot to keep the cable straight. Now I’ve had to tape that whole section of cable to keep the threads from getting unfurled down the entire cable. This was only within my first two weeks of buying so it’s a pretty big downer. While it more or less came down to chance, I think the fault still lies in the design itself for making this whole problem possible. Now I need a replacement cable or I’ll have to deal with this taped cable. Great headphones, iffy cable.

I'm probably being unreasonable at 4 stars, call it 4.5 stars.

I am running a bazzite (linux) gaming PC, so I wasn't sure if it would work right out of the box. It totally did. I didn't have to do anything other than plug it in to one of the front usb ports and done. This is totally awesome, to not have to screw around with drivers or anything. Just ****ing works, which is the highest praise I can give in this category. Sound quality is very good, and it's pretty comfortable. Mic quality is also good. I am using it for gaming, and the audio cues are much clearer, both in direction and in audibility than the perfectly respectable speakers I was using. So it's clear they took that aspect really seriously, kudos. I admit to being a bit unreasonable in not going full 5 stars, I'm just used to my aviation headset, which is not a fair comparison. The Aviation headset is basically a $1000 headset, so of course it's a bit more comfortable. But this is like losing to a Supercar, it doesn't mean that it's in any way deficient for a higher end Honda. It's still totally comfortable, I'm just used to a much more expensive one that is designed for pilots flying for 14 hours over an ocean etc etc. That's my bar for comfort, and it's not reasonable to expect in this price range. You'll get 90% of the comfort for 10% of the price, and until I stopped to think about it, I didn't think about it. So it's plenty comfortable. No worries, I'm just being pedantic or something. Quality of the build is generally good, the cord is braided, so that's nice. The mic gooseneck is also nice, it's removable but also the flex neck stays exactly where you put it. I also find that it is sensitive enough to work a bit to the side, which is nice when you want to drink some water without fussing with it. I got the black one, which I found blends in to the background nicely, but you do you. The real acid test for any product is do I regret getting it? Nope. Totally happy with it. I'm just a hard grader.
