BirdDog X1 Reviews

Nice camera but setup is rough

After a lot of research (reading and watching) reviews I decided to purchase the BirdDog X1 video camera for our church to live stream our services. I was looking for a PTZ camera that could be connected to our control center laptop computer. Little did I know that reading the BirdDog documentation would lead me down a maze of rabbit holes; most of which were dead ends. I began corresponding with BirdDog support and immediately received some very helpful advice. But although I could access the user interface on my Google browser, it did not appear to be interactive as I was told it would be. I was instructed to select tabs that I could not find and therefore I could not open the settings menus. It took me nearly a month to discover that the UI screen was larger than the screen I was seeing on any of the browsers I tried (Google, Edge, Firefox). There were no scrolling bars to enable me to move from side to side in the screen (which would have at least hinted there was more to see). The customer service reps did not know this was an issue and so could not understand why I could not follow their instructions. It was by accident that I discovered that if I set the screen zoom to 60% I could suddenly see all of the tabs and interact with the settings menus. Two months after initially starting to work with the camera I have reached a point where I can access the camera settings (through an Ethernet/USB3 cable) and can (using a capture card from another manufacturer) to connect the camera so that I can view it in a video studio program such as OBS. In all fairness, the two BirdDog customer service representatives (Jan and Jess) have been very patient and I have learned a lot from them. But it does not appear that their products are designed to be used in small user environments. They suggest using a "network switch" (for a single Windows computer?) and hiring a network consultant to connect a single device to a single computer? If you have a large company with a large network where you need to be able to direct traffic between different devices then the BirdDog X1 video camera may be for you. Otherwise, I suspect there are other companies that are better at helping small users.

Appreciate this camera every day
