Really loving this smart telescope. I’m still learning the ropes but I’ve gotten some good photos with it. Really easy to use. Very well packaged

Great results right away, but a steeep learning curve to expertise.

I had been attempting astrophotography for some time with a camera, with often disappointing results. So when I discovered the Seestar S30 I jumped at the chance to get real deep space images. And right out of the box you can get amazing results. Unfortunately advancing is more difficult. The manufacturer's instructions are very skimpy and don't even cover all the basic features of the scope. There are many YouTube videos that help, and it's important to search them out to watch. The app that you use with the scope provides some editing functions, but it isn't always clear how to use them. Back to YouTube. Third party post-processing apps are a mixed bag. Many people get good results with Siril (free), but I haven't been able to make much headway with it. There is supposed to be a script to use for loading Seestar files, but I've had no luck installing it. AstroEdit (free) says that it can process the .fit files produced by the Seestar. So far I can get it to work only with jpegs from Apple Photos, which severely limits its utility. All other files are grayed out and won't load. FITS Liberator (free) shows potential, and I'm still trying to learn it better. Starry Sky Stacker ($24.99) is useful. There's a very expensive app, Pixinsight (~$350 - $500), that some people use. I’m not likely to spend that kind of money.

Can you mount this on a normal tripod rather than the included tiny tripod?
Asked by: Charlie the Crab
Supposedly - yes - insofar as people are also doing it with its "big brother" the S50. You MIGHT have to get a conversion bolt (I haven't tested this yet - on the TODO list) for 1/4" ---> 3/8" for the tripod.

How well does this telescope cut through light pollution? I live in a big city so i have to deal with less then ideal contions. Thanks!
Asked by: Chris
The Zwo Seestar S30 can provide very nice views even from light-polluted cities. The telescope employs an air-spaced triplet apochromatic lens system and is equipped with light-pollution filters. You can manually switch to anti-light pollution filters from the APP to improve image quality in light polluted environments.
