    Ubiquiti USW-PRO-XG-24-POE Reviews

Good switch, lots of horsepower - loud fan and quirky

As the market goes, this is a great value for the capacity, both the 10g (with some 2.5g) switching capacity, and also a hefty POE budget. As a switch it has worked well. It is easy to set up simple vlans and apply to the ports. I did not try the layer 3 routing (I would suggest using a real router for that). Also, it provided POE for every device I tried (cameras, rPi hats, ATA, Voip stuff, etc) without issue, no negotiation problems at all. The Etherlight stuff is mildly interesting but not terribly useful. If it could color code ports by port profile it would be better (it can only do speed and native VLAN). On the downside -- it is LOUD. Oddly I also have this in an 8 port which is nearly silent. But this one, at 10% of POE budget and negligible switching load sounds like a wind tunnel. I have it in an open closet inside the pantry adjacent to the kitchen, and yet 20-30' away I can hear it. So do not buy this for a SOHO use where noise is an issue, it needs to be in a computer room or enclosed IDF. The killer issue is that it is a bit flakey. Besides some profile issues, the worst one is that it periodically just falls off the IP level network. It continues to arp and send syslog, but you can no longer monitor or manage it without a reboot. It's done it 4 times in about 2 weeks. Unifi support is so.... tedious... I have yet to try to get help, but plan to try this week when I can devote a lot of time to silly questions and take pictures and misunderstandings. It may relate to it being fairly new, though I have also tried the current beta release (trying at Unifi support's request to fix yet a different issue). As it stands now I would say it's a decent value for 10g, but expect it to be loud and flakey.
