Setup was absolutely brutal but once it’s running it’s a miracle device. Look into how to power it and get software working because it’s not pure plug and play tech.

I have had the standard Elgato Prompter for a year and because my distance eyesight is bad, I thought I would buy an XL. It is massive in comparison, more useful and has a power button. Best of all the monitor is detachable so you can stand it up to use vertical or horizontal. Very happy with the purchase and still plan to use the small prompter with B roll camera on desk tripod and the XL with by Sony FX2 on wheels. Even the auto voice scrolling works great as software is tweaked. Great purchase for those who benefit from above.

Yes, you'd be able to use the Elgato Prompter XL however you need. The monitor has a USB-C input to connect to your computer.

No, Prompter XL requires a Mac or Windows PC. It doesn't support iOS or iPadOS and can't be connected to an iPad or iPhone.

Will this prompter accommodate a Sony HXR-NX5R or Sony PVW-Z200 camcorder?

Yes, both the Sony PVW-Z200 and the Sony HXR-NX5R have 72 mm filter threads that the Elgato Prompter XL will attach to when the hood is removed from either camera.

I shoot social media video vertically. Does the prompter creep into frame in vertical orientation? I would be no wider than 24mm

Prompter XL is designed for horizontal shooting and isn't recommended for vertical video at 24mm on a full frame camera, the internals will be visible in frame.
