    K-Tek K102CCR reviews

K102CCR Klassic Series Five-Section Lightweight Boompole is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Impressed I just replaced my old metal boom pole with this carbon fiber boom pole. I have to say I am a bit disappointed. First of all, when you loosen a collar and try to slide the pole out it sticks and is not smooth at all. I'm not sure if it will loosen up with more use, but right now it makes it difficult in run and gun situations. Second, in my opinion the collars must be loosened several rotations before the pole can be exteneded. I'm use to half a turn and then extend the pole, again difficult to move quickly for ENG work. Third, because this pole tends to stick, it makes far too much noise. This is the first K-Tek product I have bought, I've always heard good things about them, maybe I just have a bad pole. Either way i think I'll go back to my old metal pole, it was quiet and smooth, never got stuck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight and rugged Great pole. Light, rugged, easy and fast to extend. I really enjoy the internal cable but, as others caution, be careful with handling noise....same with the pole in general. A good mic mount is critical. Quickly whipped this out over the weekend when a client added an unexpected shot to the production. Luckily it wasn't a long or complicated shot, so I quickly trained a novice how to handle the pole. Worked like a charm, proving that the downsides of the pole can be easily overcome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and lightweight. Great small boom! This boom is a huge step up from my Avalon aluminum pole. Lighter and much less bouncy, higher quality locking collars, replaceable parts all around, shock absorbing end cap. I noticed that low frequencies in handling noise transfer through this pole (moreso than the aluminum pole) which was completely negated by the low cut filter on the mic itself. At 9 feet long, this pole is a little on the short side, but that is still long enough for about %90 of situations I've found myself in. I am keeping my longer aluminum pole for these instances. Great pole so far, I hope it last for years!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Buy a great Shotgun mount With the MKH 416 and the Rycote softie mount and front, the whole rig weighs 2.5 lbs. Great, the pole is quite noisy when using with rycote softie mount. Lots of low frequency jargon. Id probably buy it again just buy the best shock mount you can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Pole You Should Have What a great pairing for my RODE NTG-3. I love the simplicity and ease it offers. I just screw on my desired suspension system, attach the mic and with the built in XLR it could get any easier. This pole gets the job done while allowing me to be efficient, compact and professional. If you are using a professional boom mic and don't have a pole or a pole with a built in XLR cable, this pole is the way to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Boom pole for life I hope I'm coming from the perspective of someone who's learning the whole sound thing and wanted some good long-term equipment. With some playing around, I got used to extending the pole with the coiled cable inside pulling back as I lock each segment into place. There aren't any instructions that come with it, but you can figure it out. I think the key is not to force anything. I've seen suggestions of not overtightening the locks, and I'm sure that's good advice with this boom pole too. Just enough to keep the segment from moving, then move on to the next. The XLR cable connections felt solid on both sides, and my sound tests with the MKH416 and Zoom H4n have so far been stellar. Nothing seemed to wobble or rattle inside. I feel I made a good purchase.
