ZEISS Biogon T* 35mm f/2 ZM Overview

Positioned as an all-around versatile lens for general shooting applications, the silver Biogon T* 35mm f/2 ZM from ZEISS is a flexible wide-angle prime for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Using a Biogon optical concept, along with one anomalous partial dispersion element, distortion is virtually eliminated and chromatic aberrations and color fringing are well-controlled for a clean, realistic image quality. A T* anti-reflective coating has also been applied to minimize lens flare and ghosting, and, additionally, the lens's manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3' away.

Biogon optical concept benefits the wide-angle focal length by helping to virtually eliminate distortion for clean, realistic rendering.
One anomalous partial dispersion element reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved color accuracy and clarity.
Zeiss T* anti-reflective coatings have been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections in order to provide greater image clarity, contrast, and color fidelity.
Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 2.3'.

ZEISS Biogon T* 35mm f/2 ZM Reviews

Very nice lens

After running my first three rolls of film through this lens I am happy. The lens is clinical, so if you are looking for character, look elsewhere. But with clinical comes sharpness and good contrast (all black and white so far - so can't comment on color). That is plenty good for me - particularly at this price. Everything is smooth in terms of operation. The controls could be a little more pronounced, but that may simply be due to my giant hands.

Great manual focus lens of Sony A7rIV

I love the look this lens gives my images. It is my go to manual focus lens on the Sony A7rIV when I want a compact camera to carry around. The lens is very sharp in the center at all apertures. It easily resolves the A7rIV's 9504x6336 pixel sensor. The bokeh is pleasing, out of focus background highlights are round. Edges can be a bit soft at f2 but if you use a lens like this for the its character not clinical accuracy. If that is what your after go for the Sony G master 35 1.4 or the Sigma Art 35 1.4. I chose this lens over the Zeiss 35mm F1.4 ZM because of size and price. Given how well the Sony works at high ISO I don't miss the extra stop.

question

Would this lens be compatible with a Fuji X E2, I understand that it would be a manual focus...that's ok. What other constraints might there be?
Asked by: Anonymous
Using the correct adapter, the Fuji X-mount system works very well with Leica M lenses. You would retain the same constant aperture and infinity focus capability when using something like this:Metabones Leica M Mount Lens to Fujifilm X-Mount Camera Lens Mount Adapter (Black Matte)B&H # MELMXBM1 ? Mfr # MB_LM-X-BM1However, automatic diaphragm (AE metering), or other auto functions are not retained using this adapter. This second option will allow for aperture priority automatic exposure:Novoflex Adapter for Leica M Mount Lenses to Fujifilm X Mount Digital CamerasB&H # NOFUXLEM ? Mfr # FUX/LEM

This vs Distagon 1.4 ZM? Why did you pick this one?
Asked by: Murat
The ZEISS Biogon T* 35mm f/2 ZM Lens is smaller and lighter than the ZEISS Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 ZM Lens, due to its optical design. The Distagon has more complex optics, with 3 low dispersion elements vs 1 low dispersion element in the Biogon lens.

question

Is this 6-bit coded? If not how is lens selection accomplished?
Asked by: Anonymous
It is not 6-bit coded. However, if you have a Leica M9, you can select the closest lens from the Menu -> Lens Detect-> 35/F2 11310/11311=>Set and exitIf an M8 you will need to understand the focus frame in the camera works and shoot accordingly.
