Rated 3 out of 5 by from The jury is still out Adjusting the base on the impact brand seems like it could be a problem in the future. I'm not exactly a fan of the pull up locking and unlocking for releasing the legs, if it were a pullout, I would be all about it. I'm all about the pullout. I'm the pull out King. I just have my reservations about impact brand grip gear. I'm used to the pro sturdy c stands, and I'm unsure of whether or not saving the money on these is the way to go. However, it did work fine on location and during the shoot. So as of now no mechanical complaints. I just am not thrilled with the build and I question the base...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Multi-purpose Stand This C-Stand is almost perfect of my needs. I use mine indoors, primarily with another C-Stand and aluminum rod to support a backdrop, or alone with an extension arm to boom a shotgun mic. These stands are very sturdy. The only fault I can find is in the clamp mechanism. When clamping on a rod, or extension arm, the slots on the clamp head are placed off-center, causing the heads to freeze in a locked position. It can easily be fixed with a screwdriver by prying the heads back to a parallel alignment, but this is an annoyance. I feel if the slots were designed to grab a rod from a specific side of the heads, then the function of the heads should not be compromised by this design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A heavy (duty) precision instrument This is a very robust, very well made C-stand. I assume most people get C-stands for the same reason I do: you want something that is sturdy onto which you can place your flash equipment or other camera equipment. It needs to be heavy to do this well. The legs move in a very precise, well-machined manner. It gives one the impression it was made for a higher purpose than just holding lights. Of course, the same quality that makes it useful is also a drawback: heavy things are hard to carry. DO NOT get this stand if all you need is vertical height. There are lighter ways to elevate lights straight up. This stand is meant to serve as a strong base onto which you will attach lights or backgrounds that would pull over a lighter stand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent unit I purchased one before and the fan inside was not working. I contacted the costumer service and they told me to return it. The second one arrived, the fan was not working again. I contacted the company. They told me that I was misinformed and the fan is not supposed to work all the time; it gets active only the heat reaches a threshold. I was relieved. It's been months now. I am very happy the way it functions. I use it like a secondary hard drive. No speed issues or frozen hard drive. I keep the files there and open them in Lightroom or Photoshop directly, and work. So far, so good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible I'm surprised there were so many good reviews for this stand. I've had one for a couple months.. thought I could save some cash over the Matthews one. But this one is horrible. The pin in the base does not stay securely attached.. it is taller than most C-stands so does not fit in my stand bag. I wish I had returned this as soon as I got it, but now it's too late. Also, despite feeling much flimsier and less secure, it is actually heavier than most c stands. I used to be a freelance assistant in NYC, and have had my hands on a lot of c-stands. These are the worst I've ever seen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality strong stand Very heave and durable stand. I used studio light with 55 octabox and it didn't move. No weights needed to hold it down. The only thing I don't like is minimum height is too high, with 7' ceiling it's difficult to maneuver my softbox.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Taseful hard edge Simple and effective way to make light with a hint of specularity for portraits. You don't benefit from the parabolic shape as much as it makes you think when hearing the word parabolic. Only the defocused (flood) and half-way focused positions respond close to the nature of a real parabolic. In the base, the umbrella gets almost flat, and it is hard to move a studio strobe that far inside the umbrella because of the restriction of the light stand. I am giving a full star review for the value and the portability aspects. I don't know if anyone would use it outdoor for it could become function like a sailboat for the equipment. Still good for shooting indoor. By adding a diffusion it can be used like a softbox. Big enough even for full-body shots or small scenes that require a tasteful hard edge.
