The Impact Grip Head for Lights and Accessories - 2.5" Diameter (Chrome) mounts lights, light modifiers, scrims, flags, cutters, and other lighting accessories onto C-stands or butterfly frames.

I purchased this one along with the 40 extension arm. It isn't as heavy as it looks, but it totally does the job, easily. The tight grip on the extension arm or the C-Stand works very well for my at-home setup.

will this work with a regular stand as opposed to just a c-stand? I read this: Wide compatibility with standard grip equipment; fits 5/8 baby-studs or stand top-studs and just wanted to double/triple check that this will fit the need I have.

I use a regular cheap light stand with this Impact grip to hold my boompole. This is a pretty well made product. Very solid. The workmanship is good. I just ensure that sand bags are placed at the bottom, so that the cheap Ravelli ALS light stand doesn't flip over. You can also choose any other cheap light stands if not the costly C stands.

With the grip head grab a 5/8 pin?I want to grab a 5/8 pin 90 degrees from a 5/8 pin.

Yes, it will grab a 5/8 pin and also allow to place the 2nd pin at 90 degrees from the first pin.However, there is no indent for user to snap to an exact 90 degrees relative angle.The device is robust (& heavy) and will allow any angle from 0 to 180 degrees relative to first pin. An aluminum friction washer really does a good job in preventing slippage after you set the angle.If you are planning to attach it to top of the 5/8 vertical pin on a light stand, please do ensure that vertical pin is long enough to give you enough land & stability. Better if you can the pin rather than the aluminum section of your stand.
