Hoya XD72CRPL overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya Pro 1 Digital Circular Polarizer takes advantage of Hoya's patented optical glass technology to create a hardened glass that is thinner than the normal optical glass. This allows the overall thickness of the filter to be reduced to avoid vignetting when used with ultra-wide angle lenses.

Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems); Pro 1 Digital filters are ultra thin but have a front thread

Digital Cameras Need Multicoated Filters
Digital camera CCD or CMOS sensors are highly susceptible to reflections - this stray light can ruin your photographs! Don't risk your valuable photos by using bare-glass filters
Digital Multi-Coated
Digital multi-coated filters greatly reduce the appearance of lens flare and ghosting caused by reflections
Black Almite Frame
Filters feature a black matte aluminum satin finish Almite frame which reduces reflections
Black Rimmed Glass
These filters are equipped with black rimmed glass to reduce the chance of light reflecting off the edge
Low Profile Frame
Ultra thin filter frames to help avoid vignetting on super wide angle lenses are also designed to hold a lens cap
Knurling Edge Frame
These filters are equipped with a straight knurling edge for non-slip, easy attachment and removal
UV Protected Case
Filter cases are UV protected to further lengthen the life of filters
Effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter
Polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot
The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun

    Hoya XD72CRPL reviews

72mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant design, even better image I spend a lot of time in high glare and intense light situations and use wide angle lenses regularly, so I needed a filter that would not give me vignetting and that would allow me to cut through haze and blinding reflections. The Hoya Pro 1 MC provides all that as well as a slight warming effect. The added hue is not exaggerated at all, and once you figure it out, it's easily managed by setting your Kelvin temps in camera to cool it off as needed. I'm not sure of its exact exposure effect, but it does bring your light down a stop or two, which, again, is an added benefit in many of the situations I find myself in. It mounts easy and is easy to dismount, as well as fitting well with a Canon L series lens cap. The ring moves smoothly and yet still holds steady. If you shoot sports or even any portraits, this is a filter I highly recommend adding to your quiver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nicely designed thin filter I have a number of filters from Hoya and I've never had a problem with any of them. This thin polarizer has a very nice design... it is easier than most filters to grip and install/remove on the lens because the mounting ring has texture. It also allows lens caps to fit over the filter, which many thin filters (at least older designs I've seen) can't do. Other than the nice design, it works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great benefit for landscape photography I've only used it once. Just got it! I took it out on a bright, winter day with snow cover and lots of blue sky with puffy, white clouds. The filter slowed down my shutter speed a little but it really brought out the sky and other color. The world and my pictures look a lot better when this filter takes away the glare that is normally there on a real bright day. My polarizer is 72mm. It has the appearance of a precision optical instrument. I like its thin, light design. If it weren't for its darkness, you wouldn't even know it is there. I wish I had a better carrying case for it. The factory packaging is a little large and bulky and I doubt it's plastic container would stand up to much rough handling. I have other Hoya products and I have confidence in the brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very nicely I use this filter on a Nikon 18-200mm VR DX lens and I find that it enriches the color and minimizes reflected glare pretty well. I can't compare it to the very high end versions on the market but I think I got my money's worth. Hoya appeared to be well regarded, enough to make me consciously avoid bargain polarizers. The slim profile eliminates vignetting but the anti-glare coating comes at the price of cutting down on the allowable light. So, it needs to be removed for indoor use which unfortunately obligates me to always have the storage case handy. That is the only annoyance because to a small degree it defeats the convenience of having a good all-purpose wide range lens. While I no longer have to walk around with a camera bag with extra lenses I still have to carry the big 72mm acrylic case that does not easily slip into a pocket. Overall it's a really good filter that I recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fit nicely on EF-S 15-85 Thin design but I can still attach my Canon 72mm lens cap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Filter for Blue Skies. I have used Hoya multi-coated glass filters for years and purchased the 62mm and 72mm polarizing filters for my new Fujifilm lenses. I use the polarizing filters primarily to deepen blue skies and increase color saturation in my photographs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Serves the Purpose At the price, the filter is a good one for the purpose. However, using this on a wide angle lens at 16mm, you cannot avoid vignetting at corners, at least on top corners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality matters! Hoya filters are ultra thin, easy to use, produce consistent results.
