Furman M8x overview

  • 1Description

The Furman M-8x2 Merit Series 8 Outlet Power Conditioner is a low-cost AC power solution for rack mount systems. Install an M-8x in the top slot of your rack, and the eight switched AC outlets in the rear panel will power up and protect all your equipment, up to a 15A load.

M-Series conditioners protect your delicate electronic equipment by combining high voltage varistor (MOV) surge and transient suppressors. The fast-acting suppression circuit quickly responds, and clamps transient voltages to safe levels. An RFI/EMI interference filter works to prevent noise from fluorescent lights, certain dimmers, radio transmitters, and similar sources of "electronic pollution" from contaminating the AC line, and from there leaking into sensitive audio, video, or computer circuits.

The rear outlets have been spaced to accommodate even the bulkiest of wall warts and adapters.
A circuit breaker is provided on the rear panel. If the total load on the power conditioner (combining all outlets) exceeds the 15A (or 1800W) limit, the circuit breaker will trip. It can be easily reset by pushing in a button.
The M-8x2 has a convenient master switch for the rear outlets which glows when the power is on.
Standard level filtration from radio frequencies and electromagnetic interference.
Operating Voltage: 90 to 140VAC
Black painted steel chassis.

    Furman M8x reviews

M-8x2 Merit Series 8 Outlet Power Conditioner & Surge Protector is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, but shallow I already have the Furman M-8Lx and just needed the outlets, no frills for another audio effects rack. After I installed the M-8x2 in the rack and trying to plug in the wall warts, quickly realized that the depth does not allow the wall warts to fit in. No vertical space with other 1U or 2U regular depth units.Had to add short zipcord extensions for those wall warts that now are kind of loose in the back. I should have ordered another M-8Lx as it is deeper.Just a caution to those looking for a review. Looking through the other reviews, I see a few that mentioned that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product for the price! I'm using the M-8X2 to power my home voice over studio. My wife and I live about 4 blocks from 4 major radio towers and we're getting some RFI. Initially, I was also having issues with ground hum, but the M-8x2 took care of that. It also cut down the RFI by a substantial amount. I've tracked down the RFI to either my Broadcast Tools Mixer Buddy or my mic pre-amp will have to invest in a little more filtering to knock it completely out. But if you're not located close to radio towers, this unit will most likely completely clean up your signal. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid piece of gear As a basic need, this model is the cheapest power conditioner that I am willing to subject my equipment to. It adaquately satisfies that need, which is to provide 8 outlets of relatively conditioned power to a rack and provide a means of organization. The outlet on the front of the unit is crucial for me. It makes plugging in external hard drives, laptops, or even phone chargers an easy endeavor. However, I do wish that the power button lit up like the older lines used to though. Overall, it does what it's supposed to do with reliability and simplicity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peace of Mind Without Breaking the Bank I'm a composer and have a studio in my home apartment. The building was built in the 1930s and has old wiring and very few outlets. This unit has allowed me to safely power all of my studio equipment without breaking the bank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! This outlet bar is of excellent quality, has 9 outlet, power conditioning and surge protection. It only takes up two rack spaces and has an indicator that shows you it's working! I don't know what more you could ask for in a power strip. B&H is usually my last place to check, out of four or five, when I'm shopping for this type gear and they regularly have the lowest price and top drawer service. Well done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built power strip for your rack I owned one of these for five years without any trouble and just bought two more. They are well made but inexpensive, and give peace of mind that your gear is protected. It's a nice option if you don't want to pay for front LED lights or meters if you don't need them. A note of caution: The previous version (M-8x) was almost twice as deep; the M-8x2 is considerably shallower. This means it does not protrude very far into the rack, and depending on what you put directly adjacent in your rackspace you might have trouble reaching the outlets in the rear. It also has cleverly spaced outlets to allow for wall-wart power supplies, but some such power supplies take up space vertically rather than horizontally. Thus, you can't mount the M-8x2 directly above another rack appliance that is deeper because there will be no room for the vertical wall warts to hang down. These are not problems if you plan accordingly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For the price, you can't beat it I use this to power two Crown Power amps located under the stage at my church. The unit it simple and not flashy which is perfect for powering and protecting items, especially those under a stage which no body ever sees. Though I currently don't use it, I do appreciate the wall-wart spacing on the back of the unit too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from solid as a rock Shallow works in my setup. Not sure what other people are doing with this, but I use for broadcast video in a shallow depth rack case. It's perfect. I would not want this for my recording studio because it's too shallow with full rack units around it, but again it's perfect for broadcast rack case on the go.
