Westcott Strobelite Plus overview

  • 1Description

The 200Ws Strobelite Plus Monolight from Westcott is a highly effective light source with core and convenience features usually found in flash heads twice its price. The flash recycles in 2 - 2.5 sec to offset waiting between shots, while flash duration is an action-stopping 1/3000 sec. Flash power is variable from 25 to 100% and the 150W modeling can be set to proportional to match the strobe power in use and allow you to preview the finished shot.

The Strobelite Plus Monolight has a heavy-duty tilt bracket that not only supports umbrellas but can handle even the largest softboxes and light modifiers. An additional benefit is the Bowens S-Type front accessory mount, making the light compatible with reflectors and light modifiers available from the many manufacturers that employ this mount. The 15' power cord is removable from the body of the flash head making packing more space efficient. The Strobelite Plus Monolight ships with a reflector, protective cap and a sync cord.

    Westcott Strobelite Plus reviews

Strobelite Plus Monolight is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased as a first strobe purchase I am an experienced, though non-professional photographer. This is my first time to purchase a studio strobe, having used speedlights before. I wanted to experiment with strobes at an economical cost. I am very pleased with the first test uses. It does what is advertised. The quality seems solid. I bought it, fully understanding that it is a simple unit, lacking some of the fine-tuned capabilities of more expensive units (has only 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full power). But it has more power than some, and that seemed important to me. The controls are simple and clear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stand behind their product Great lights, I've used them a lot. Good color temp and consistant color as the output varies, fast recycle times and a lot of power for the price. The quality of the light is really nice, I got two of them and makes for a nice portable setup. One of the units did die after 11.5 months and they replaced it no questions asked. They were super easy to deal with and didn't try to play some impact damage game like some manufacturers do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's pretty good I'm using this with a cheap 55" egg crated softbox at full power to do business profile pix with a second Wescott 150ws in a 32" baffled sofbox for fill. Figure around 800 flashes per session in two hours. Recycles are less than advertised at about a second. I like the beep because I know the next shot is ready. Works with my various wireless flash triggers. Modeling light seems orange, but if I set the white balance to 5000K the strobe images look accurate. I have not seen a miss-flash in two months. That is a compliment. I don't think the watt-seconds are over-rated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Let There Be Light! I currently own the Westcott PLUS Three Light Kit just because my wedding photography and special event photography demands me to be mobile. The kit is WONDERFUL and provides me adequate power, flexibility per head and most importantly, the strobes don't overheat. I needed a fourth head with more power to accompany my new parabolic umbrella. I needed the strobe to have just enough power so that I could only bring one strobe, stand and umbrella to special events. All I can say is KUDOS to Westcott for this incredible product. All I wish now is that the three head kit came with 400w strobes instead of 200w. Needless, this strobe is well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Piece of Equipment I consider myself to be an advanced amateur photographer. I am an architect and I purchased this light and a light umbrella to supplement artificial lighting within the buildings we need to photograph; it has worked very well. The unit is very intuitive, equipped with a good modeling light, and appears very durable. I really like that I can dial in the precise amount of light I need to capture the right photo. I can either use the strobe light as a direct flash or (more commonly) in conjunction with the umbrella to reflect light on a broad area. The flash renders good colors that are true to form.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lighting value, great results Mostly used for product photography so far. 400ws x 2 lights is plenty in studio. Good design and controls. Easily accepts my Photoflex softboxes and other modifiers using common Bowens style speedrings or S mount. I also got the barn doors kit which comes with gels and grid. Unit does not have an internal fan, therefore runs silent which I like in a small studio. No issues with overheating after several hours of use. Durable plastic construction for studio use, but no case included for regular travel. It's well made but not the toughest unit for location work. The tilting mount to attach to a light stand could be beefier, though is adequate. I suppose that and the lack of an internal fan keep this model at a nice price. Quality of light is excellent so definitely worth considering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice, easy to use, effective piece I'm a professional photographer who prefers to shoot nature and architectural settings. I do shoot posed models at times in outdoor or studio locations. This light is a complement to my other strobes (Nikons). I like the variable Modeling light, the fast recycling, easy mounting (very) and the sensor that picks up on my other strobes and triggers the Monolight. For an inexpensive light, someone thought this out well. Nice addition to my system. I'd buy it again...wish I had gotten it earlier.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a Power House. But Not a Wimp Most often used at High school reunions. In home portraits, church events. Groups of 5 or less. Used with several 500W constants to raise ambiant light level. Strobes are direct/spot. Not powerfull enough for multi person setting when used alone. One person with strobe 4ft away(45 inch umbrella) iso 200 works. I dont think I will ever use this strobe below full power. Nice and light. I like being able to turn the beep off. The flash sensor works great. I will buy another, maybe two. Direct plug into 110 outlet is nice. Not lugging around power supply, priceless.
