    LaCie 301371 Reviews

500GB Rugged Triple Interface Portable Hard Drive is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 189.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Drive for Fibal Cut This is my second LaCie Rugged Drive, which replaces a 120 GB model from 2007. I use these devices almost exclusively for edting with Apple's Final Cut Pro application on my 17 Macbook Pro. With it's ease of connectivity (via USB, Firewire 400 or 800) and relatively compact design, I find these LaCie models to be quick to set up, and the right design for editing video on-the-fly. The only danger that I can see, is they do get quite hot. My last drive began to fail after about 3 years. I strongly recommend this device for use as a working external. For additional storage or back-up. I would opt for a regular external.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Product to love I had a co-producer come over and help with Final Cut Pro editing. He kept bringing this little gem with him and just plug it in with no power cord. Simple, fast and well it just works. I purchased one for myself and just think it's the perfect add on for my MacBookPro. I just love the fact that I don't need to carry a wall-wart around to keep it powered up. My only wish is that they come out with a 750GB or 1TB version. The hard drive spins at 5600rpm but I'm able to edit HD files and play them back. I like the way this drive feels in my hand and how handy and light it is to pack and carry around. No noise, no heat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hard Drive I am an amateur photographer that uses the 500GB Rugged LaCie as a backup during my photo shoots on the road. I use the 400 Firewire interface with my iBook G4 lap top and the USB 2 interface with my home computer, a new Ma ini. I have used a 110 GB Rugged LaCie for several years and have filled it with my back-up images and bought the 500 GB unit from B&H because of the memory size/physical size/price/interfaces and reliability. I have had no problems with either of these units; I have initialized them with the Mac OS Disk Utility; they work out-of-the-box as advertised. I highly recommend the LaCie Rugged hard drive with the 3 Interfaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good I bought this one because my husband had been using them at work for video for awhile and had no problems. It seemed to take a very long time for the first backup, but I don't know whether that's normal or not. It is quite light weight, and easy to carry in a tupperware container. I've found that while I am giving this a good review based on its current performance, you really should actually pay more attention to the bad reviews. Bad reviews are often written by people unhappy that something has died after a few months, or worse yet, right out of warranty. Bad reviews will give you a better sense of the durability of the product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Guess what? It works! I bought this drive after a brand new Western Digital drive refused to work right out of the box. The LaCie powered up just fine, was easy to format and has allowed me to transfer files quickly and with confidence. I've had good luck with LaCie drives in the past and expect this one to perform well too. While I'll mostly be connecting to the drive with firewire, I was disappointed that it would not spin up with a USB connection to my laptop unless I also used the USB power cord (which is included). I don't know if this is a function of my computer (a MacBook) or the drive needing more than average power, but using up both USB ports on the computer could be inconvenient in some circumstances.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fast and portable I've been using Lacie hard drives for years and fully recommend the rugged triple interface. When shopping around for prices, beware that the Ruggeds all look the same but very in port options. I go between an iMac, Macbook (with only USB), and PC and need all three ports. The file transfers are extremely quick and the rubber exterior means you can transport it without an additional bulky case.PROS to buying this product:- multiple interfaces make it easy to use with both PC and Mac- PC and/or Mac- fast upload/download- durable, light and portableB&H's price, ..., etc. are also the best

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best rugged drive I've ever owned Unlike many other drives I've owned, 500GB LaCie Rugged drive has exceeded my wildest expectations in terms of reliability and durability. I have to say, that I'm not the most careful person vis a vis the equipment I own. I tend to be a little rough on it, so hard drives tend to fail me easily :) That's why I've chosen the rugged model and am very happy with it. I drag it about everywhere I go. It's easy to find in a bag thanks to the orange protective sleeve that is quite noticeable. The drive has a scratch-protected aluminum shell and after 3 years of usage, there's not a scratch on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice little drive I use it for photo and video backup and portability. It's solidly built with a nice bumper, and the 3 interfaces may come in handy, although I've just used the USB connection so far. My other portable drives have been larger and required AC power, so this is much nicer for tucking in the laptop bag, or just bringing by itself. I was in a video class that used a lot of these (the 320 GB version), and the only issue one might have is they are all orange, so they can be hard to distinguish in a crowd. A few more color options might be nice, and it's not the speediest drive around, but the combination of factors (size, capacity, ruggedness) make it a great deal.
