    Rode NT1-A reviews

NT1-A Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone (Single) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT!!! I love this microphone. I'm a professional voice over and recording artist (soprano vocal range). I use it together with my Audio Interface, Focusrite 2i2, and things are just dandy! I recently went to the Cutting Room Studios in NYC to get my R&B single mixed. The audio engineer asked me which mic I used because he was so impressed by the quality! My single will be releasing soon in September so feel free to check me out by searching jasiaworld on the web. Also, all my mini covers on YouTube at user name, jasiaworld, are recorded using this mic if you want to hear and check out the quality. Cheers and good luck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy I record talking head videos in front of a green screen. I used to use a lapel mounted lavalier. This gives me better sound, lovely rich, clear, extended bass, right the way through deliciously crisp but not exaggerated tops. An unexpected benefit over a lav is that I get fewer breath noises, since it's further away and has an effective pop filter, and I don't get rustling of my clothes rubbing against the mic or cord. I'm sure that more money would get more microphone, but honestly I'm not sure I can use any more. This thing is ... delicious, that the word I want to use. And _far_far_ better than anything any of my clients will ever use for playback :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crystal Clear & QUIET!!! For the money, it's absolutely unbeatable! I use it to record hip-hop and techno vocals. I personally have tested at least 50 mics in my life ranging from $100 to the $3000+ U57 tubes. This is the quietest mic, hands down - which is great if you live in a busy city like I do. The clarity and presence of the mic is significantly better than others in the $150-$250 range. It sounds like a $1000 mic. The included pop shield and XLR cable make it an even better deal. I can't say there are any negatives to this mic. It's THE best microphone in this price range.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Mic, can't beat it for the price. I'm fairly new to recording but I've worked with mics that were a lot more expensive than this one, and I'm still convinced this is an excellent mic, especially for the price. I use it mostly for vocals. It's got great tone, it really picks up those low-mid frequencies for a really warm sound. I was extremely satisfied with the results when I used it to record the harmonica. It also works okay as a drum overhead when your in a pinch and you haven't got any cigars. I have yet to try it on guitar and bass and brass instruments, but I'm really looking forward to experimenting with it some more. It records with very little noise, a very high quality product. It comes with a decent quality shock mount with a built in pop filter. This is convenient most of the time for vocals, and it is detachable. However the pop filter is somewhat lacking in flexibility, and you can't always get it to the position you want it in. The DVD is okay. It has some useful tips, but it takes a really long time to explain three simple concepts: mic distance, turning the mic, and using the mic without a pop-filter. These concepts could easily have been explained in three simple statements: I don't really think a video was necessary to address them. I any case, The RODE NT1-A is definitely quality product, and this is a greater starter pack. I would recommend it to new recording engineers who are just starting to build their home studio. For the money, it's probably one of the best mics out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Voice Over After researching a few USB mics and the NT1-A for some voiceover work on a documentary I'm editing, I settled on the NT1-A. When I unboxed the mic I was very pleased with what I found. The shock mount, pop screen, and XLR cable were of better quality than I expected. I'm editing in a spare bedroom that I've converted to a Final Cut/Voiceover studio, so I added a VoxGuard Nearfield Audio Absorber and other sound proofing to cut down on room noise. So far I've put the NT1-A through some rudimentary tests with Pro Tools SE using the M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface and have to say it's best sounding vocal mic I've ever owned. The package is a great value for the money. I'd highly recommend this mic for a micro-budget home voiceover setup.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great if it works.... Despite the tremndously rich sound this mic can produce (esp for the price), I'm 2 for 2 in getting faulty units which produce a constant wind noise and low output volume. I'm very careful with the mics, and keep them covered or put away when not in use. Kept in a climate controlled room and never dropped or abused. Others on the net have had similar experience...maybe it's production run issue? Not sure what the problem is but BH Photo is THE BEST about addressing concerns and making sure you're a happy and productive customer. Will return and likely try a different model. Use: Home studio - Music and Video Pros: Pro quality sound and solid body with good kit for a reasonable price. Cons: Mysteriously appearing wind noise makes it unusable for the unlucky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great For Podcasting I bought this for recording my podcast and the audio is superb. This package made it very easy to do one stop shopping and get everything I needed except the studio boom. I watched some comparison videos on YouTube comparing this to the Rode Procaster and Rode Podcaster and although they sounded respectable, there was just no comparison in the audio quality and the NT1-A won hands down.Be forewarned that this microphone is very sensitive and if you are monitoring any audio through headphones at the same time (e.g. other hosts are calling in via Skype, you are mixing in sound effects or music, etc.) that you will need a good set of isolating monitor headphones to prevent the microphone from picking up your headphone audio and causing a bit of a reverb effect. Also I definitely recommend running it with a low pass filter to cut the ambient noise.
